Unfortunately, half the media will report those claims without any sense of irony or context, and the right wing attack machine will pump up the stories to also blame whoever is running as a Democratic candidate for president in 2028. By that point, affordability, housing price spikes, groceries, gas at $6 or $7 per gallon, heating fuel skyrocketing, etc., will all be the Democrats' fault. And most Merkins will swallow the bullshit hook, line, and sinker.
I'm a born optimist -- though I've been described as an "optimistic cynic," too. I think we have to be prepared for the worst we can imagine, and put ourselves in the shoes of the most revolting people in the country to anticipate how low they'll go.
I'm cynical about the corporate media's ability to be even slightly honest -- they do memes, not reporting, because I spent 15 years in the '80s at NBC, when things were different -- until GE bought RCA, the Fairness Doctrine and Equal Time Rule were trashed during the Reagan years while I was there, and Rupert Murdoch bought his citizenship and the complete elimination of standards, rules, and laws).
But we still have to work our butts off this fall, and then keep the new Congressional majority's feet to the fire from day one. After all, every piece of legislation they propose and pass will be vetoed by Herr schitzinpantz, so it won't become law -- but we have to make sure they pass it in both Houses. And to be ready for the GOP to act as though what the Dem. majority passed is now law, and therefore Dems are to blame for the regime's failures.
It's a very twisted strand that we have to weave and use -- and one they'll try to hang us with. So ... work for the best, anticipate the worst, but be totally confident that success will be ours (even while getting ready for Armageddon).
But what happened to that Trump Gas or Patriot Pumps or whatever the hell scam Trump hereby ordered to sell gas to 1% of his dipshit base? Oh, right, it wasn’t paid for and was a hairbrained scheme that popped into Shitler’s head during some stream-of-consciousness ramble rally and a few scammers tried to make money off it. Every promise he makes is a criminal enterprise about to take flight without any planning or chance of success.
I filled up yesterday (does the fuel industry jack up fuel on Friday? Probably). It looked like the stations are desperately trying to avoid a “5” in front of some cents. Cheapo gas was about $4.89 in our area. $5 gas is coming, and soon. Our family is lucky. We will still fill up and live our selfish lives even at $6 a gallon. Hell, at $10 a gallon, I’m still taking the few drives I take in my day. I use my ebike a lot. The reality here is that the world and all of us living in it are being affected by the insecure, neurotic whims of a corrupt conman who only understands threats and bullying. He doesn’t understand diplomacy, trade, economics, or the delicate balance of global relationships. He’s a rich American white man who is potus and so everyone must do what he says or else. He’s building personal ballrooms and changing names of lakes and states and dedicating institutions and monuments to himself, while banning unflattering journalism and using the only geopolitical tools he thinks he understands - tariffs and war. And his voters insisted we needed him to end all wars and protect cats and ducks from hungry Haitians. They asked for this, and I’m fresh out of sympathy for them.
What is not well understood is the problems with American gas prices go back at least 100 years and maybe further.
American oil companies, with the help of the American government and the CIA, have been interfering in the internal affairs of oil producing countries all of that time.
Instead of focusing on domestic production and consumption and instead of buying oil at the market price, American companies and the American government have attempted to get their oil cheaper by interfering in other countries.
These interferences have usually resulted in higher or dramatically higher oil and gas prices, as is happening currently because of the war in Iran.
If America and its oil companies and its citizens had been less greedy, they likely would have gotten lower or dramatically lower gas prices with absolutely no effort.
Trump has blundered into this mess in Iran and driven up the price of oil and gas dramatically but he's just following a game plan that is roughly 100 years old.
