See, the trouble with that logic is that you can never know what's in a person's heart. You can only judge their actions. So the person who continues to argue about this while knowing that others out there are DEFINITELY using the terms to be racist, and Asian Americans are subject to hate crimes because of it, may not BE a racist shitbag, but they act JUST LIKE a racist shitbag, in a way that effectively means there is no difference.
Which is why I report any comment or tweet from someone spinning out this argument for the fifty-squillionth time as hate speech.
I can't understand how _Fawlty Towers_ keeps appearing on "greatest comedies of all times" list with its incredibly dated racist and homophobic caricatures. (It's not that bad on gender, probably because John Cleese wrote it with his wife of the time, but the dude used to work with Graham Chapman, why did he think throwing cheap jokes about queers around was a good idea?)
It's the Trump aftermath that's doing the real damage. They botched the response and now the Corona is coming home to roost.
