I am reminded of a guy I dated in the 90s, for whom I was not *really* hip or alternative enough, as evidenced by the fact that I liked Cathy cartoons. It didn't stop him from being a hobosexual at my expense, natch, he just berated me for it. What a nice morning to be reminded that if you can swing it, living well is the best revenge.
I lurked for years after I found here. I finally logged on after the move to substack. I had never been part of an online community before. This is the only one I belong to.
I too was a long time lurker until the pandemic. Then I decided to occasionally drop in and leave non-comments. Other than the very small community I have formed for my channel on YT, this is pretty much it for my online interactions.
It was a "close-shoelace" disaster with "long periods of silence," no plan, and no attempt to argue that the DOJ was actually complying.
"At no point did they argue that they were complying with the law, which I thought was pretty shocking," Ballou said. "You would think you would want to at least nominally say, 'Look, judge, we are actually following the law here.'"
I have been forced to work way too much at my "part time" retail job, which is as back breaking as prison yard work. So, I'm working today, Monday and Tuesday. I'd like to be late or non-existent for all of them. I finally spoke to the person who has been scheduling me yesterday and was told it was because "people are leaving." No shit.
This is why I have to laugh when rich people say they don't want to pay taxes because they want to "keep" what's "theirs". They really think they work harder than the rest of us, that they somehow "deserve" to walk on our backs, and they don't have to apologize for it.
First, I am so sorry you have been held captive to irrational retail scheduling. Try to think positive thoughts. It always amazes me when retail schedules part time people for 40-50 hours a week to cover for employees who are fed up with retail and have fled to other jobs. Is being irrationally dumb a requirement for retail management?
Well, when the franchise owner or the corporate manager with a real salary asks you if you want to get paid an extra $2 an hour to have to manage the whole store and have everyone there hate you, you have to be the kind of person who'd say yes to that.
In the early times of my post-retirement I tried out a few part time jobs. I found that having been an (over) educated person working independently made me an absolutely horrible employee.
Retail work is stressful during the best of times but made worse when it's physically demanding. I hope you're able to have a good weekend nonetheless and take care of yourself on your days off.
Thank you. My "day" off is tomorrow. I've got to clean house and get the laundry done because I won't be off again until Wednesday, where I have to grocery shop, because I have to work Thursday and Friday.
OMG I can't even. I need emergency kittens or something. A 5-year-old boy was being treated at a dodgy-sounding clinic that uses hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat "a range of health conditions – including autism, ADHD and autoimmune diseases." They had the kid in the chamber, and, per an expert, he pulled on the sheet inside, causing a small static electricity spark. The kid was almost instantly incinerated, due to the high oxygen content. Their safety manager is going to prison, but this of course will not bring the kid back (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/sep/04/hyperbaric-chamber-sentencing-child-death).
That was a horrific situation. I have a distant relative who owns one of those HBOT chambers that they use after she was only mildly injured in a car accident. My relative is an attorney who views herself as very, very smert and she ends up getting scammed by people selling these quacky things and any pushback she receives from other people who are actually health care providers is summarily dismissed because, again, she's just sooo smert.
We were raised to believe that being late was a mortal sin. I routinely have lunch with my brother and his wife. Due to a life of therapeutic self-reeducation, I do my best to be on time rather than half an hour early. Inevitably, when I am driving up to the restaurant I get a spate of texts from my brother telling me where to go inside the restaurant. hahahahahaha
When I was younger, I was always late. It got to the point where my mother would tell me things started half an hour earlier. I don't know how I managed to turn it around, but now I'm paranoid about being late.
Yep! My dad also too. He was a stickler for being on time. I am always somewhere early and I don't have a single friend who is! The hubs is a get there by the skin of his teeth person and it drives me nuts!
So far, my road trip has not been pleasure unalloyed. My manthrax came back at me the night before I left Florida; I threw up at the Nashville Zoo and was so exhausted afterwards that I went back to the hotel and slept, off and on, until this morning.
Feeling better today, at least well enough to eat breakfast and get a shower.

Say, you know who else it would be nice if they were late?

I have a LONG list.

Whenever I come to Wonkette (which is several times daily) I know I have come to the right place.

I just never leave - problem solved. (others may have a different opinion of that).

The only thing that would be "SHOCKING" is if they actually COMPLIED with the law.

I'm retired. I just wanted a "fun, part time" job. Thanks for the advice, I shall lay back and think of England today.

Probably shouldn't be allowing this shit at all, but if we are having anything on the inside that could react this way is inexcusable.

National be late for something day... I am never late. People worry if I am right on time! The morning story is early this Caturday!
We were raised to believe that being late was a mortal sin. I routinely have lunch with my brother and his wife. Inevitably, when I am driving up to the restaurant I get a spate of texts from my brother telling me where to go inside the restaurant. hahahahahaha
I err on the side of being early. Being late stresses me out for the whole day.
Yep! Me too! Seriously, people freak out if I am not there already, waiting for them.
I've had many an app and "tail alone waiting for friends!
When I was younger, I was always late. It got to the point where my mother would tell me things started half an hour earlier. I don't know how I managed to turn it around, but now I'm paranoid about being late.
Mom's can do that to a person!
Alarm cat has trained you well.
Yep! My dad also too. He was a stickler for being on time. I am always somewhere early and I don't have a single friend who is! The hubs is a get there by the skin of his teeth person and it drives me nuts!
18 dead service personnel in stupid pointless wars started by Preznit Pedo = small potatoes
4 dead mercs in Benghazi = National Catastrophe that should be covered round the clock by the MSM and the GOP led Congressional hearings!!!
Well, yeah, a woman could be blamed for Benghazi.

And Democrat.

Per Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald" "The joys of motoring are more or less fictitious."
Driving up here from Florida guaranteed that I stayed alert.
Driving anywhere in Florida guaranteed that I stayed alert.
:(. That sucks.
Like I say, I'm feeling better. Coordinating with my brother and his wife to visit the Farmer's Market and the State Museum.

And four other posters who've been lurking, waiting for the right time to make that post, and sad now.

Never played that game before. Top 7%. Just mixed up the two in the middle, mostly because I'd never heard of the one that was supposed to be in 3.
Also, as I'm looking at this game, I'm confused by the results graph, as I can't see a way to get exactly 5 correct.
It's got some idiosyncrasies. I got all 6 wrong the other week, and it told me I was in the top 77%. So what the fuck did the other 23% DO?
They found the secret option to delete an answer?
