It has been a couple of decades, but I recall when PG&E started a fire way back when because instead of cutting back foliage and stuff they used that money for corporate parties and retreats...and again they got fined, and they just went on doing the same shit

I've got so many thoughts in my head now I don't know where to begin. I just can't believe Nancy Pelosi would indulge PG&E bc of her ownership of those shares, since she can own anything she wants. Tho I believe Paul would. And you know what those fires must represent to Newsome. Disaster! I believe you, of course.

If PG&E and other fossil fuel companies were smart, they'd be investing in solar instead of trying to stop it.

The Santa Anna winds kicked up something fierce just before Thanksgiving and people were so on edge about the fire danger. Those high winds are what often cause the swaying power lines to spark or even for a live one to break and fall to the ground. Once that happens, the fire goes from a few acres to a hillside to a whole mountain in a few hours. We had a hot dry summer and the brush is now just sitting there turning into fire fuel. Fortunately the winds died when a cold system moved in with lots of rain so we got a temp reprieve from the danger. But as soon as things dry out, the danger level will be back to high.

It's a double whammy. Their "crews" often don't know what they are doing and either cut the wrong trees or don't clear enough trees. And you never know when they will show up without any advance notice. I fence, gate and lock my property pretty securely so they can't come in without my agreement. And I have turned to hiring my own trimming service to do the work. It's expensive but at least it's done right.

They were a good band, and was the first I ever heard of PG&E (before the company). I have that album and one other.

“There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.”

Considering what a fuckup PG&E is, That coma- (I mean) company should be toast.

Over here in NC, Duke Power or any similar entities are known for butchering trees in the right of way (or near a power line). You come home, and there’re ugly hacked off branches with no sense of the health of the tree or even visual neatness. Horrible. I call their tree company Aspaugh Ass-plunder.

Yeah, it's a racket so they can come out the next year and bill the utility while butchering off a few more inches; rather than remove the trees from under the lines. Hahaha. I love that name, Aspaugh Ass-plunder!

Sadly, that is correct. ALL (and I repeat ALL) California politicians take money from PG&E. If there are any who don't, please let me know their names and I will revise my statement. There used to be ONE 'lone ranger" (Jerry Hill from San Mateo) who did not take money from PG&E. In fact, he railed against them publicly every chance he got. It's too bad that he retired.

"bury the power lines"That's great, until you learn just how remote and inaccessible parts of grid are. That means it's going to cost a great deal of money - something not available at this point. Paying contractors when the work cannot be done due to conditions is not good management either.

Calls to have the government take over the utility have the same problem and it's a good bet having everyone foot the bill, customer or no wouldn't be very popular.
