We knew that the T-Rump would win, but I didn't expect DeathSantis to beat Hatey and Ramasmarmy.

"His strongest base of support — Black voters — wouldn’t weigh in until South Carolina."

Black voters...and ME!!!! I voted for him in the SC primary, because I thought he was the only Dem who could beat Trump. We did it, and managed to whip Trump's ass.

Trump failed to meet expectations in Iowa. The caucus turn out was lower than 4 years ago, and Trump didn't pull in any additional voters outside of his base.

This is completely unsurprising, but only furthers my contempt for the right wing (which is largely MAGA and FarQ with significant overlap between the two, at this point). This is not about issues and such, but about influence, to be more precise, a cult like influence. Evangelicals have more in common with say Ron DeSantis, issues wise than they do with Trump, yet they went for Trump.

Cynicism is the order of the day with the GoP voter base at the moment as this clearly shows. Even the nearly-extinct conservatives should rightly show contempt for their former fellows, now acolytes of the Cult of Trump.

“Our children” will never forgive Biden or Trump for adding to the national debt? I have to give a lot of credit to kids today. I think they are far more aware and thoughtful about national and international issues than my generation ever was. But this comment by Haley is a knee-slapper. “Our children” will probably never give much, if any, thought to the national debt. They understand that Congress makes nearly all decisions about spending, and simply raises the debt limit anytime we need more tanks, guns and defense systems. America has a perpetual boner (lasting longer than 4 hours) for defense spending, especially Republicans. Our kids know Trump is a repulsive monster, and they are far more likely to never forgive Republicans for embracing him all these years.

So, 50.1% of the most conservative, politically-active Iowans do not want Donald Trump as their nominee. I guess the big question out of this caucus is whether that 50.1% of Republican voters will hold their noses in November and pull the lever for Trump if he's the nominee, vote third-party, or not vote at all.

In the end, a whopping 7% of Iowa Republicans voted for TFG. Well done, sir!

I was shocked to hear an MSNBC talking head say we've never seen such fervent devotion like TFG gets in the "modern political era", but this is wrong. The last person with supporters who were "fervent" "evangelical" and "wouldn't care if he went to jail" were GEORGE WALLACE'S supporters!

And why was that MSM? Huh? Economic anxiety? GET A CLUE THEY ARE WHITE SUPREMACIST RACISTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fuck. That is all.

I’m never one to criticize Wonkette but I do slightly prefer the following headline:

Let’s congratulate Tiny D for winning the coveted silver participation trophy. Conventional wisdom had his campaign DOA, but he managed to get a whopping one out of five Iowa republicans who didn’t decide to stay home and not freeze their asses off. It’s a huge win for someone with the face and personality of a sleestak.

The best news is that turnout was down by around 50%. Trump is overwhelmingly popular among Republicans. There may not be that many Republicans left.

It was around -30 degrees with the wind chill. I wouldn't put the low turnout down to anything other than that.
