It says how much fuckedness we have today that a decent and sane candidate like Talarico is only 5 points ahead of a smirking, corrupt liar like Paxton.

"He says it’s a “God” thing, you wouldn’t understand, and he’s got special prayer warriors posted in strategic positions around the Capitol doing PEW-PEW-PEW-prayers that will totally turn the tide against Democrats." Reminds me of a passage in Gibbon about a church council that split over some theological minutia, and the two rival councils "hurled anathemas against each other from their spiritual engines."

Sherry's avatar

I do hope that Tallarico wins. I do know that he’s missed a large portion of voters by not reaching out to the Black voters. He’s done well with Hispanic but reaching out to those people can very possibly help him bridge the gap.

What’s got me taking these polls with a grain of salt is the fact that, even though Paxton oozes sleaze, he’s already won multiple statewide elections in Texas. They know what he is and yet they keep returning him to office.

An Economist/YouGov poll found 49% of Americans want the US to arrest Netanyahu & only 27% oppose. (23% unsure).

Surprised that many are paying attention.

Oh, and there's that pesky 27% again.

OT: The Heritage Foundation has been undergoing a slow-motion collapse for years and I'm just finding out about it.

"Maybe MAGA is not suited for governance? The Heritage Foundation saw internal purges, staffers using Signal to figure out what was going on, and spokespersons who rather attack the media than respond to questions. So, just like how Trump is running our government."

And then what? It f---ing still exists. So, no, I’m not good at letting go. I f---ing hate it. I hate that that s--t still lives in the world unabated, unchecked, unresolved, uncleansed.”

No one should "let it go" until justice is satisfied.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I've seen this movie before, starring Beto O'Rourke. I'll believe in the happy ending when I see it.

Congrats to Evan for making it through a whole, entire post without a single reference to oral-anal sex.

That will never occur in an Evan post again.

I mean, keep hope alive and everything, but come on, it's Texas.

Going to see Phish at Fenway on Friday. Bringing my older brother, who has never been on the field before but will be Friday, and my bass playing nephew, who cares nothing for baseball but likes the music. Together they make one superfan.

I too was an 80s teen. Not super into baseball, but my dad is a big fan so I'd watch the games with him. Strangely he has always been a Cleveland fan so, he knows misery. I've been to Fenway probably twenty time. Always a good night out.

When Paxton is out of office and unemployed and divorced and unhoused and ugly as ever he ca star in a sitcom called “Everyone Hates Ken” where he’ll undergo various humiliations and indignities. My hope is that the show will run on the same network with the Trump-in-prison cam.

Kansas police officer accused of recording child in bathroom

At least they fired him immediately and didn't put him on administrative leave.

Bear is Under-Cubbed's avatar

I've never been a cop -- I can't judge what they need to do at the spur of the moment in a tense situation. Maybe there was a tactical reason he needed to record that kid. Plus, at the end of the day, he just wants to make it home to his poor innocent family!

(ETA: My hometown in the MN 2nd often sounds VERY much like this.)

Suzie Greenburg's avatar

Judging by his outfit he didn't need to record the child in the bathroom.

Have you lost your mind?' MAGA melts down at Trump over late-night endorsement

“It is my Great Honor to endorse Amir Hassan, who is running to represent the fantastic people of Michigan’s 8th Congressional District!” Trump wrote.

“What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul," one Trump supporter wrote. "No political gain is worth insulting our Christian faith. No Muslims in America. No Muslims in office.”

“THATS A HARD NO FOR ME. NO MUSLIMS IN OFFICE PERIOD!” stated JeffV4JC, who claims in his profile, “Jesus Christ is my God and, Donald J Trump is my President.

“His name gives me pause. Call me racist 🤷🏼♀️ but I am merely being cautious. Obama comes to mind,” advised “Loyal Trump supporter” Billie.

Paxton is so overtly gross that it is simply undeniable by anyone. A grotesque and corrupt primary system shat out this turd and in some ways, he represents the culmination of republican efforts in Texas politics, their legacy moment.

lotsacatsndogs's avatar

A friend sent me a photo of a Paxton yard sign in her neighborhood with the admonition to "Look closely." There was a white spraypainted X through the fucker's name.

Hope it's a trend. It's too hot to walk dogs as far as I want to, but driving around I still have seen a single Paxton sign and countless Talarico signs. I am cautiously optimistic--if we are allowed to vote and our votes count.

Turn out wins elections. Even if the GOP chuds just decide to sit this election out and not vote, that's a good thing. Plus Paxton losing would be such a massive smack in trump's face. Plus with bad polls, the far right money makers are going to lose $millions supporting an idiot who most likely won't win... .

The education thing is really, really interesting. So far as I know, the weighting in virtually all election polls has people with college degrees leaning blue and HS or less leaning red. I am hypothesizing here, but what if the polls are giving too much weight to pro-GOP votes and not enough to pro-Dem votes? Could possibly turn this election into a Blue landslide. Be still my beating heart.

SunMoonStars's avatar

I know a lot of Ds with only a HS education. I feel certain that the numbers support the non educated being right wing. Which is why Rs have consistently decimated the educational system and pricing it out of reach for millions.

Suzie Greenburg's avatar

Let's be clear: they defunded education by never, ever giving raises. It was certainly in full swing by the Vietnam War, maybe by the Korean War. Too many non-elites saying I DON'T WANT TO MURDER YOU CAN'T MAKE ME

Took 'em a while, but they got it done.

Frank Talk, Action Pundit!'s avatar

Which is exactly why the Republican Party has been pushing voter suppression for decades.

Russell Jones's avatar

Nah, man. I've seen way too many "there's some really interesting polling data out of Texas!" stories for way too many years. Our family is getting murdered with out-of-pocket medical expenses this year, so there's very little for out-of-state campaign donations. The limited dollars I can shake loose are going to Sherrod Brown's campaign in Ohio. A Dem in a statewide race in Ohio is only a moderately better bet than a Dem in a statewide race in Texas - which is an awful bet - but I've been a Brown fanboi for decades and the nation is a measurably worse place since he's been out of the Senate.

josephebacon's avatar

See what an asshole Bernie Moreno made of himself this morning.

Oh that makes me miss Sherrod!
