I believe the tomato you see in the store (or at least *used* to see -- new varieties always come along) was the "sunny". Practically any tomato, including sunny, tastes fine if ripened. Sunny was popular because it was more resistant to damage in shipping -- and was picked green and artificially ripened. Had no taste.
