Aliens are coming! Aliens are coming! And not across the southern border. They're coming from

spa-a-a-a-ce!

The 'Pubbies have never met a crisis they couldn't blow up into mass panic.

Wait! Is now a good time to panic?

Right, because obviously the correct channel to request document declassification is in a public tweet. Otherwise one might engender a panic, and we know republicans aren't about engendering panic, ESPECIALLY when a democrat is president. Heavens, no.

Bingo, they are always stepping on their own dicks, trying to make 'fetch' happen. It works with their gullibles, so they may just be playing to them. The firehose of shit that is orange-anus will soon drown it in his usual fashion.

There's a real contradiction in terms when talking about Republicans and intelligence in the same sentence.

"Oh. Well. Huh. A “highly concerning and destabilizing Russian capability”? That just sounds like more “Donald Trump” to us."

Yeah that's what I thought before I read down to that line. It could actually also be Tucker Carlson or any one of the FarQMAGA Putin-lovers in congress.

I did, too. My fantasy is that they have reliable information that there's a bit more than just colludin' going on with Trump, some of his Congressional toadies, possibly Fucker C., and Putin and off to prison with 'em all! My dreams are simple ones.

Dungeons and Dragons is a role-playing game that lets you live out such fantasies as:

• Having money

• Making close friends as an adult

• Travelling the world without crippling dept

• Being able to change the world

• Getting better at something with practice

• Getting 8 hours of sleep each night

May not be quite old enough but after four decades getting better by practicing still works at all skills except being an adult.

Let’s make deal. Biden will declassify everything on THIS emergency, if Trump and his co-conspirators hand over the 10” thick binder full of raw intelligence that was last seen on Jan 6th under the arm of Mark Meadows.

I think the emergency is that Eric and Joonyer used a dial-up phone modem to access The Whopper to play Global Thermal Nuclear War and almost started WWIII by taking us to DEFCON 1.

Space nukes; why they could be very bad.

Once a long long long long time ago, I took PoliSci 121; Politics and Military Strategy. Cal had this 'breadth requirement' where you had to take x numbers of credit hours outside your major, so PS121, Italian 39A (Dante), etc.

Among other things, we read Hermann Kahn's "On Thermonuclear War"... not good nighttime reading. We learned about first strike capability (you have enough nukes and the right technology to take out the other guy's nukes before he can launch). We have, because of that, a 'nuclear triad'... bombers, missiles, and subs; making it harder for Putin to pull off a first strike without Mother Russia becoming one huge Chernobyl. Our strategy is based on having enough time to detect submarines, land-based missile launches, and bomber runs to launch our own. This is why Putin is freaked about our having nukes in Europe and maybe Turkey and possibly Ukraine. This is why Kennedy freaked about the missiles being put in Cuba. This is why Reagan's Star Wars initiative freaked out the USSR and drove them close to bankruptcy trying to emulate it. All of these shorten the time someone has to decide whether to fire back against a possible first strike.

Orbiting nukes changes the whole equation. No idea how much, but the reaction time will be much much smaller.

This is why the term 'destabilizing' is worrisome in the rumors being tossed about. Esp. if the destabilization is around nuclear deterrence.

I hope I'm wrong.

Bored nuke's avatar

I believe your wrong in that it is not orbiting nukes so much as hypersonic delivery that several countries have been saber rattling & weapon jerking off to for the last couple years and one may have actually figured it out.

Dunno; you may very well be right. Anyway, the current chatter says 'satellite-killer' although nuke seems like overkill for something that would work just as well with tnt and ball bearings, unless they are going to EMP us

("In July 1962, the US carried out the Starfish Prime test, exploding a 1.44 Mt (6.0 PJ) bomb 400 kilometres (250 mi; 1,300,000 ft) above the mid-Pacific Ocean. This demonstrated that the effects of a high-altitude nuclear explosion were much larger than had been previously calculated. Starfish Prime made those effects known to the public by causing electrical damage in Hawaii, about 1,445 kilometres (898 mi) away from the detonation point, disabling approximately 300 streetlights, triggering numerous burglar alarms and damaging a microwave link.[8]".

My worry was low-orbit nukes with boosters... how soon would they hit a target once they hit the go button. Much much sooner than a ballistic launch from Siberia. A series of EMP pulses however, could easily destroy most of our electrical grid and key electronics (and a whole lot of satellites as well).
