So I had to reup my Hazwop, it is a yearly thing, and has to be done in April or before, or I risk losing my cred and have to retake the 40hour. The reup is 8 hrs. 8 is better, and cheaper, than 40.
USUALLY the feds just have a class for everyone and we all go and that is that.
This year they were all EWWWwwww dirty contractors, you can't come training thing that there is space for you for because you are not a fed! Even though the company doing it is also not a fed. Even though in past years it was fine so long as there was space for you because we are already paying for that space so we might as well use it.
Grunt.
So, had to go it alone, no big, found an online at your own pace one with test and cert and errything, and Monday supe is all do it Tuesday, for we will not be in the field anyway, is a good day to do it.
zomg I thought this shit was boring in person. It is 10x more boring-er when it is a computer generated voice yacking at you. Luckily, I could mute the thing and just read the stuff instead. Bonus, because I am a fast reader, it did not take me a full 8 hours, but since it is an 8 hour course, I got paid for 8 hours. Also got 100% on the test without cheating (it really is not hard). But goodamned, anyone else try to listen to a computerized voice for hours and get a headache from it? It really bothers my ears for some reason.
Moral of the story: I still am not sure why I even need this, for I shall never be a responder to any incident, but I suppose I might dig up an old drum or something sometime so it is what I have to do.

One of my clients has decided that EVERYbody has to take HIPAA and CJIS training, even though there are zero people in the company who can ever see unencryoted data (they are a data storage company).
The employees have to do this in addition to their overload of work, but I get paid (quite a lot) per hour to do it. Fine, I'll sit through it.
I loathe and detest the AI "actors" that read Relias trainings (my network contracts with them) and ALWAYS complain that I'd rather read it myself (when there's no choice but to sit through it). HOWEVER, I completed all mandatory trainings through the end of June, and I'm retiring at the end of May. I am DONE with that shit forever!!
At least our annual security training, which is online, has a talking cartoon llama. They also made it so you HAVE to watch the whole video or you don't get credit.
Money can't buy you taste, talent, dignity, ability, creativity...
It's why these kind of people keep trying to pave over all of that with zero-skill AI slop.
Maybe if they devalue it all, it'll make it sting less when some slum kid makes music that they couldn't create if they paid a million tutors for a million lessons.
