What a strange process. Dems cannot really stop any dangerously unqualified people from being confirmed, but they still go thru the motions of asking embarrassing questions while smug candidates brush off accusations and fail to answer basic questions about the job. Then they are confirmed. It feels hopeless, futile, even meaningless. Why create a record about Hegseth being an unqualified, abusive drunk? So that when he undermines national security to such a shocking degree that 1/2 of the military threaten to resign, Dems can say, “I told you so?”
And there is no relief in sight. I’m reading that Don Jr. is the leading GOP candidate for 2028 in many polls. If that’s not proof that the rapture is near, I don’t know what is. The bizarre, toxic obsession with the cult of personality that is Trump probably won’t die with him. And with Baron just 18, it probably never will.
Unfortunately, pushing through unqualified people with personal problems is the point. They are terrible people hoping to change reality so that being an alcoholic liar who abuses women isn’t anything to be ashamed of, apologize for, or result in lost opportunities.
