If anyones giving the full college try towards “Trump but with a brain” Densantis is not deviating from the playbook at all. With Trump no grievance is too petty, no insult too slight. Every criticism must be met with retaliatory nuclear warfare in all circumstances.
The problem I don’t think Desantis has fully reconciled yet: Trump is actually this stupid and has a sociopath’s level of shame. He’s too dumb to know better and he never tries to learn. It’s why he steps on his dick constantly and always declares “flawless victory”

The issue is emulating Trump’s inherent* racism, misogyny, and hatred of anything that makes him uncomfortable, which aligns so well with Republican voters.
DeSaantis seems to be doing a much better job of it than Congressional Republican Presidential hopefuls.
*Trump lies about almost everything, except for his racism, misogyny, authoritarianism, etc. He’s 100% honest there, and Republican voters know he is. That’s why they say, “he tells it like it is”.
