Must be nice to be so selective about modernity. Love to use those magic black box computers. But vaccines? Unh unh, gotta die from ailments like it is Oregon Trail.

Survivorship bias + Dunning-Kruger is a horrible combination.

Hate to say good because others will be at risk. But you betcha. One of their chirrens die and see the tide change.

Green Russian Pampage's avatar

Nope! Not even the deaths of their own children will change them. This is where the "gawd's will"/martyrdom complex comes in: if their kid dies, then they win a gold medal in the christian suffering olympics and can write off any parental neglect/abuse by uttering the magic words: gawd's will. Look at that couple in Texas last year whose child did die from Measles! They said in a televised interview that they were still antivax and that they wouldn't take any measures to safeguard their remaining children. These fucking idiot ghouls cannot be saved.

Runfastandwin's avatar

Sucks for the kids. Parents are the ones who should suffer.

Here in Oregon the N95 masks are coming out of the drawers again. When I checked in to the clinic yesterday everyone was required to attest they didn't have any measles symptoms before being allowed to see an internist.

When an anti- vaccine guy goes shopping for a puppy, does he ask if it has had its shots?

Cuz if not, don't plan on entering any American Kennel Club events, because they could give a flying fart about your belief in protection against canine distemper or rabies via medals of saints or copper bracelets. They will however have no objection if you believe in healing by faith for yourself. Your kids are not their (public) concern. It's the dogs, dammit.

So these people are passionate about the babies birth, but not so interested in keeping them healthy afterwards. So good breeders, it bad parents.

Turns out that quick fucking is easier than lifelong parenting. Who knew?

It seems only fair that if you are exposed to measles (or anything else) from an unvaccinated person, you should be able to sue that person for wilful damages.

Even short of this radical and impractical proposal, isn't there a legal principle about creating a public nuisance? Such a principle would seem to apply pretty directly to anyone who chooses to go unvaccinated.

Bupkus231's avatar

Funny how 20 or 21 cases of measles in Florida were found at Ave Maria University in southwest Florida - Ave Maria is a private Catholic institution, founded by Domino's Pizza mogul Tom Monaghan, a real "conservative" zealot.

(Not *safe* - that's the old standard)

Imagine being told from birth you will never feel fulfilled until you have a baby. When that fulfillment never appears because raising children is hard and lonely, resentment seeps in and can lead to really dark places.

I never heard that message, and I'm 61. I was told, though, that it might be impossible for me, and it did turn out to be damn near so, but I wanted badly to try, finally, and one complicated medical procedure was all it took. No, of course it's hard but I am profoundly grateful. Not everyone feels this way, that's a hard reality. I think these assholes are just self-righteous, power-mad assholes. Oh, and they're cultists.

You're misinterpreting that whole "Suffer, little children," you miserable assholes.

The problems, once again, are that 1) they are spreading it outside their own community rather than just destroying their own and 2) the children are suffering, not the shit for brains parents who deserve all the FO their FA generates.

I'm typically used to these people just being upset about HIV treatments because it interferes with God's Natural Law of punishing 'sexual deviants'

But even I never thought they would manage to go far enough to mainstream prayer emojis as a healthcare system.
