That gif is a picture of what I say to people (who advise me about medical stuff I don't need advice for) saying, "If you only do/try/take _________, you'll be much better." My response is always, "Yay! Then I can throw away my walker and chair and go skipping down the street farting rainbows!"
I finally read the photo essay from WaPo. I don't know how, but everyone who owns a gun must be put in a Ludovico machine and told on a loop that this is the cost of their hobby until they puke, because they either lack the imagination to understand or don't want to. Well, you want your gun, that's the price. You confront those images until they're the thing you see every time you close your eyes. I don't fucking care if you think you're one of the good guys who would never do that. The bad guys wouldn't be able to if you didn't think your precious hobby was worth more than every person injured and killed in the places you see in the photos.
Lady Slipper orchids, the woods behind my Mom's house is full of them every spring. Lady Slipper sounds so much nicer than Inflamed Scrote orchid, don't you think?
That specific kind of orchid is known as a Pink Lady's Slippers. They were fairly common in the woods around my house growing up and at least there, it was illegal to pick them.
Okay, I read that article about the civil service rule and posted my comment to the website. The deadline is TODAY, people. I encourage everyone to post a brief comment in support of the rule. The author of the post offers a link to the comment site, as well as his comment for consideration. It begins with a very clear paragraph that can be adapted or added to easily.
"I write in strong support of the proposed Office of Personnel Management Rule, Upholding Civil Service Protections and Merit System Principles, RIN 3206–AO56, Docket ID: OPM–2023–0013..."
His comment offers a lot more info, but I just copied that bit and added a few things based on my own experience. Every comment matters. He makes that point in the article. Just the quantity of comments in support of the rule helps them to make their case.
I did too! I took his first part, and added my own brief comments. Pasted here for anyone interested in using any part:
I write in strong support of the proposed Office of Personnel Management Rule, Upholding Civil Service Protections and Merit System Principles, RIN 3206–AO56, Docket ID: OPM–2023–0013. The proposed rule is excellent, and provides well-considered protections against the dangers posed by politicization.
The business of government should be able to continue across and between administrations. We have seen in stark detail over the last several years how damaging having inappropriate political appointees performing basic functions of government can be. We need to protect institutional memory, we need to have coherence and consistency across the enactment of policy and the carrying out of procedure, and we need to divorce the basic needs of our functioning government from the drama and dysfunction of the upper political chambers. We cannot continue to expand a system that puts novices, cronies, and high dollar donors into positions that require expertise, dispassionate service, and independence from political benefactors. Nobody benefits from arbitrary turnover in leadership or key positions every few years, when the administration changes hands and the priorities and values flip 180 degrees. We also need to protect our federal workforce from being handicapped by the neglect to appoint political positions. We are in a crisis in the military right now, because one person has the power to block a whole bunch of basic functions of our military employment system. It’s not in our best interest to expand a broken system. Please put this rule in place to ensure that competence, coherence, and consistency are possible in the federal workforce.
McConnell has never seen a senate he hasn’t wanted to abuse himself, so of course he’s going to oppose any changes. Lindsey and the rest of republicans can talk all they want about how made they are at Toblerone, but until they vote to change the rules, they’re blowing smoke out of their asses.
Time to pull that Nora Ephron book off the shelf again. Turkey necks are in season after all. When we toured the new construction house before my father and stepmother bought it, the builder/residents had a turkey beard hanging on the wall in finished basement. Not to mention a rather large (stays with the house) gun safe. ‘‘Twas the wife who shot the turkey. Fortunately she took the trophy with her. This was 2003.
Western Kentucky where hunting has always been a popular pastime. Have never met anyone who ruins game with an AR 15. Plenty of them own one, because ‘Murica. Don’t live down there myself. They are are thick all over my fair commonwealth.
Not going to say much about David DePape. He’s clearly not well mentally. And the fact that republicans see his assault on an old mad as punchline makes me feel stabby.
I kind of agree that Trump doesn’t personally care much about abortion as an issue. But he knows the Christian nationalists do, so you can only expect him to make things worse.

Due to the different response characteristics between cameras, screens, and the human eye, no photo can ever truly capture the glory of a rainbow.
These come pretty close, though.
And birds see it in many more colors than humans.
Oooooohhhhh, Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!! Beoootifulll!!!!!
The word that immediately springs to mind is "Awe".
Those are some breathtaking pictures.

Anyway, she's cute and I love her.
"Antisolar Spot" is an elderly dog who dislikes sitting in the sun...
The more you blow...
You have to be a complete moron to think that a gun that explodes bodies makes a good hunting rifle.

The overwhelmingly crushing defeat of Moms of Oppression is delicious!

Nothing ladylike about it.
Jessica Valenti thinks Trump is going to start taking credit for pro-abortion wins. She is absolutely right
PAB is not FOR anything except himself. Everything else is up for grabs
He did say grab them by the pu$$y.
I filled out the online repose and pretty much forwarded the article to everyone I know for them to fill out as well!
"Let’s learn from this science nerd about the magma in Iceland that is or is not (is) about to blow!"
watch KATLA on Netflix and see the truth about Icelandic "magma"....Ahhahhahahhahahahahahaha

The CNN link about how the Moms fot Liberty lost is well worth checking out. Thanks!
Ha! When I saw the headline, I thought: I should post a pic of that Nora Ephron book cover! GMTA
