The production of the Democratic convention was outstanding and must have made Trump gnash his teeth.
Great ideas, smooth running, and wonderful speeches. Walz' football team and kids were outstanding and he has a very pretty wife.
The Donald grinding his molars while he watched (and we know he did) because though the production values on his convention sucked, he does know a good show when he sees it. A few minutes into the Dem convention he was on the phone to whoever staged the GOP convention, yelling and saying "You're FIRED!" You can't fire someone after the event is over, but Trump will stiff him/her for sure.
In 2004 Howard Dean tried to reclaim the party from the Clintonite Republican-Lites by proclaiming himself as "The Democratic wing of the Democratic Party." Then he won a primary (or a caucus, I forget), got a little too excited, and they drove him out of the race.
It feels like 2024 is finally the year that the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party reclaims the party. I left awhile ago, because fuck that electorally-incompetent centrist bullshit. I might just come back.
I think you're being a little harsh on Bill C. From what I could see, he appear to be struggling with some health issues. I spotted a tremor. It might be Parkinson's?
I thought he hit all the right notes ad he even wryly referenced his own lack of pizzazz vis a vis some of the other speakers. Always a gentleman!
I thought the same thing, especially about the hand tremor. The words were all there; the delivery was just a little slow. No real harm done. Even more impressive: the total look of love Hillary gave him as he spoke. There's a reason they've been married for 49 years, and it ain't convenience.
I assumed it was after Walz's speech, so it took me awhile to find it.
In the process, I found this, which is well worth the watch. Wish someone would make Jesse Wattles sit down and watch it and then say the slanderous, slimy things he says about Walz.
I was trying to power through ( covid is kicking my ass) but Clinton was so boring I gave up. I was following the speeches on the Crooked Media discord. The number of people who were disgusted that Bill was given a slot was huge.
2 of the kids and I got Covid over a 4 day period. Including our immunocompromised son. My 1st official diagnosis and this variant really sucks. Our practice nurse told me this morning that Dayquil and Nyquil work really well for non high risk folks and she was right.
Okay, well you are all in my prayers and heart now, esp. that child. And good to hear that something's helping. Send me an update if you can and you're not around much. Wave a kiss and hug to Imm-comp son from me. ❤️
I am not surprised that Oprah's speech was excellent. I heard her many years ago, sort of by accident but it was for a book tour she was doing, and she was incredible. Her stories of overcoming blatant racism early in her career as a local news anchor were truly inspiring, and I could really see how she became such an icon for African-American women.
Still happens a lot. For example, it is her fault that white people did woo because they were on her show /when they were still respected professionals/.
I saw that the music played at the end of Tim Walz's speech last night was Neil Young's "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World". This appears to be another song that is misinterpreted:
"There's colors on the street
Red, white, and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
There's a warning sign on the road ahead
There's a lot of people saying we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it any way I can
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
There's an old street light (near a garbage can)
Near a garbage can (near a garbage can)
Now she put the kid away and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand
We've got department stores and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people says, "Keep hope alive"
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world..."
Sorry - those lyrics don't seem appropriate for celebrating "freedom"
I had forgotten about Trump using it without authorization during his 2020 campaign - but it turns out he used it even further back - at his 2015 announcement of his candidacy ( altho' the PAB campaign claimed they had "procured a license to do so", even tho' it was clear just what kind of "license" they were referring to ).
Neil DID approve Walz's use of the song - whether it was a swipe at PAB or not.
Children abandoning babies? Homeless men being given a machine gun hand? Even the first stanza, with "a lot of people saying we'd be better off dead" better fits PAB's dystopian fantasies than a joyous celebration.
I get that it's Tim's favorite song - I like it too - and at least it wasn't used without permission. but still....
I’m not usually dancing in my living room after 11 at night, but when John Legend, Sheila E, and HER brought Prince into the house? This old body elevated and remembered that Tim Walz is governor of all Dearly Beloveds.
Dems are wearing me out in a good way. I check my CSpan app and join in later. Knew Bill would drone on. Can’t help himself.
I was dancing too! FYI, the guitarist was not HER.
Her name is Ari O’Neal. If you listen to the YouTube replay below, you can hear John Legend say “Ari O’Neal” right before she starts absolutely shredding! 🔥🔥🔥
H/t to commenter “M” for doing the research and finding her identity on Xitter.
Will the Wonkette editorial staff be making reporting trips to the battleground states?
Come to my capital city, and for our amusement I promise to stage a Wonkette version of the song-and-dance in the party scene from Citizen Kane*, or at the very least provide a one-actor tour de force presentation of Orson Welles's Paul Masson outtakes.*
President Clinton was definitely showing some aging. I kind of felt for him, remembering the days when he could drive home a point and make you laugh at the same time. He made some good points but was a little scattered for sure. Set against the very high energy of the rest of the night, it was a contrast for sure.
I heard the teleprompter wasn’t working, that is why he had paper. I liked his joke about Harris taking the spot as ‘the president that spent the most time at McDonalds🤣
Bill's long speeches are nothing new -- I remember back in the eighties, maybe? before he was president, anyway... there was a speech that went so long that when he said, "In closing..." he got cheers lol...
Pelosi saved us all when she insisted after the Capitol was cleared on Jan 6 that the certification of the election be completed that night. She was heroic. She doesn’t get enough credit for that.
Pence wanted that too, that's why he didn't leave the Capitol. I admit I was touched when Pelosi reached the VP on her phone and said "Thank God you're all right!"
During the disaster, Trump never asked about his VP once. A member of his staff told him while Trump was watching TV.
Bill Clinton did give an important warning about the electoral difficulties ahead. Joy is great, heady, and energizing....But the other side IS purging voter rolls in swing states and preparing to contest a
"cheated" election when they lose anyway. It took patience to listen to Clinton as Cassandra. Maybe better done from one's sofa than in the arena.
And what about Maryland Governor Wes Moore? He rocked the house too! But aside from Walz my favorite was former GA Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, who combined balls, brevity, and bullhorn to address his fellow GOPers with the message that a vote for Harris "doesn't make you a Democrat, it makes you a patriot."
Also implied: it doesn't make you L, B, G, Q, or T.
That was an important speaker to include; as many GOP voters as possible. When they see our policies, the majority of it is what people WANT, and some will start to see it.

Man, I’m glad I watched the Oprah speech, that was well worth it! I’ve never seen her speak to a large audience before but man she killed it!
I watched both Bill Clinton and Oprah's speech and Oprah's seemed boilerplate to me. Bill had more jokes and his sympathy for Joe Biden was touching.
It was good that both of them encouraged reaching out to nonstandard voters.
Bill Clinton...one of the best natural politicians I've ever seen in my lifetime, but Tim Walz is up there and closing fast.
Rosa! my Rep!

I've always thought Hillary really loves Bill, my theory is if she didn't, she wouldn't have been so enraged about Monica.
You know Melania is indifferent.
You're correct, of course. And we all know Melania only married him thinking she'd be a wealthy widow very quickly. Joke's on her!
It may yet happen, just not as soon as she'd like.
If you missed the football team moment, here it is.

Very, very, distanced & double-masked hug ❤️

I doubt the Democrats did not understand the lyrics.
I would say that they didn't even examine the lyrics - just the title was enough ( like so many examples on the Republican side )
Wasn't it a backhanded swipe at Trump? Neil Young sued Trump for using at his rally, but if Tim Walz wants to use it, he's all "go right ahead!"
It’s Walz’s favorite song. Young gave them specific permission to use it. It was also written about a Republican administration.
I respectfully disagree. It perfectly distills what we are fighting for.
The song very well encapsulates precisely what is going on in some red states right now.
And what project 2025 wants for the rest of us
Again, tho' - the walk-off music is supposed to be celebratory, not continuing the argument ( obvs, my opinion )
... disregarding political helpers choices of music:
I worked in the corporate HQ of a utility company for a year, & had to listen to 3-4 hours of Rush Limbaugh, everyday.
It's, apparently, part of my job.
As I was getting ready to GO, meaning a few months, I ask if I could listen to my own music in my own little thing:
First up --- Keep on Rockin' in the Free World.
Apparently Tim loves the song and asked Mr. Young if he could play it :)) Point taken though!
I’m not usually dancing in my living room after 11 at night, but when John Legend, Sheila E, and HER brought Prince into the house? This old body elevated and remembered that Tim Walz is governor of all Dearly Beloveds.

i didn't care about his aging. i cared about the length of the damn speech.
Bill's long speeches are nothing new -- I remember back in the eighties, maybe? before he was president, anyway... there was a speech that went so long that when he said, "In closing..." he got cheers lol...
At another Democratic convention.
I felt that Ms Pelosi had to cut hers short when she deserved the longer slot
I would have preferred she not speak at all. Her presence felt insulting.
Pelosi is a large reason of why Harris was swung behind and the "open convention" assholes were smacked down.

I suggest Santana's cover of "Black Magic Woman" as Kamala's theme song.
including 'Singing Winds, Crying Beasts...'
