Strangely - because it's not very good in terms of singing - one of my favorite covers is the one Lorelei does in Gilmore Girls, when she sings it at a kareoke (talent show?) night. She can't hit the notes, but she hits all the feels.
But the best versions are, of course, Dolly and Whitney. I like Dolly's slightly better.
Ta, Robyn. I did not know the overdose that killed Dinah Washington was the mix of secobarbitol and amobarbitol. Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You is sweet, and I never heard her perform it live. I've never seen The Bodyguard, but I loathed and detested Whitney Houston's cover of it; she bludgeoned that song to death. We're having flowery green tea and lounging around in our flannels. Speaking of flowery tea, yesterday darling Meccalopolis took me on a lunch date, and I had a glass of beautiful, delicious iced tea made of purple butterfly pea flowers, lemongrass, and lemon verbena. It was so lovely we went to Tay Tea to buy some. Good day, beloved Wonketteers. We love and appreciate you all and we bless us all with love, health, peace, and grace.
Please, please stay safe. Wear a mask or two, wash your hands, sanitize when you cannot wash and let the sanitizer dry completely, stop touching your face, take Vitamin D, get a booster shot six months after your last (and get kids in your household vaccinated also, too), and stay the fuck away from us or anyone with whom you do not share a roof. Do this because you love yourself, and because we love you, too. Do this in memory of 27 Club member Treg, Holly's heroic pilot friend Tony, and around eight million dead worldwide (maybe including FukuiSanYesOta; he had long COVID and that can lead to cardiac arrest). Do this to honor the nurses and other frontline medical personnel (we love and appreciate you, medicos of Wonkette, including retirees), especially ICU Hera Mrs Land Shark RN. Please, please stay safe. When we vote, we WIN!

Okay, day five of cold and sinus infection. This is what I get for being around people. My first since 2019. I don’t like it one bit. One star, would not recommend.
I have had the incredible pleasure of standing in the front row against the barricade watching Tommy Aldridge expertly thump the HELL out of his drum kit.
I wheedled my way backstage ages ago at an Ozzy Osbourne concert and had the opportunity to exchange a few words with the esteemed Mister Aldridge; the man is just one of the nicest fellows you're ever going to meet. For real; there was nothing arrogant or pretentious about him. He is just a genuinely NICE guy who can play the HELL out of a set of drums.
"Wait, my kids are just starting high school, and I can't find the Kalashnikov rifle. Besides, America has a Russian president, we already won the war." . . .
That should work. You may need a little more time but you can always put it back in the oven. Let everything get close to room temperature so it’s not cold in the middle, and sprinkle lightly with a bit of water so it doesn’t dry out.
Yeah & keep an eye out - you don't want a burnt outside & a mushy inside. Maybe wrap them in tinfoil before putting them in a preheated oven. Then take, them out, turn it off & put them back in to finish as the heat comes down.
Because, of course, NOW is the time you need all those things. Yesterday I was using the computer at my home desk to compose an email to SiL, arranging a special surprise for my spouse. The arrangements are a little complicated so it took some time to compose the email. OF COURSE, this was the exact time said spouse needed half a dozen different things on or in my desk - the stapler, an envelope, the stamps, the tape, the good pen, etc., and so I had to keep hiding the email I was trying to compose as spouse walked behind me and kept glancing at the computer to see what I was working on. I *think* I got away with it. Based on my furtive clicking away from the page I was working on, spouse almost certainly thinks I was looking at the pr0n.
I knew she was old (despite everyone who visits thinking she's just past her kitten stage) but we were thinking about 15 or so. Bumped into the woman who gave Mimi to us after inheriting her five years ago and she said, "Oh! I thought you might like to know, we found a picture of when my mum first got Mimi as a kitten, and it was a week after [somebody in their family] had their baby, and they just turned 18 at the beginning of June!" So, mystery solved, I guess.
Rocky Horror Picture Show is an excellent production but one has to wonder if not for Tim Curry’s performance would it have been the cult phenomenon it became? He was that good.
I think Dolly was the only person who could sing "I will Always Love You" and hit those high notes properly.

Keep em down on the farm so we don't have to pay them fairly and they'll always vote for bigots . . .
Wait? Republican voters hate democrats?

Gawd DAMN but that man is among the masters.
Absolutely! I got to see him play with the Pat Travers Band about a million years ago. Amazing show.

I am conflicted. ICE is evil, but Milo Yapsalot in ICE custody is hilarious.

Can’t believe he was outed to them by someone as sweet as Laura Loomer.
Give him the glove!
How can we get Laura mad at Melanija?
I like where that could be going.
he deserves to be treated the same way ICE treat all other folk who have overstayed their visas
He deserves to be treated exactly the way he wanted other ICE detainees treated, which he outlined on social media.

I am in need of advice. Need to reheat some spanakopita and falafel. I'm thinking 400º for ~7 minutes. Really don't want to mess it up.
350º F in the air fryer or convection oven. 10 minutes if it's not preheated, 7-8 if it is.
Thank you! Only have a conventional oven. Maybe 15 minutes in preheated oven?
Start with 10 ;)
Will do. Thanks!
That should work. You may need a little more time but you can always put it back in the oven. Let everything get close to room temperature so it’s not cold in the middle, and sprinkle lightly with a bit of water so it doesn’t dry out.
Thank you! I was hoping for a serious answer, and you delivered.
1600 for two minutes.
6400 for 30 seconds
That should do it.
I might go a little less temp 350?
Same amount of time?
Agree with Lucy Bea, a bit more time and preheat the oven
Thanks!
I would start with 10 minutes at that temp.
Yeah & keep an eye out - you don't want a burnt outside & a mushy inside. Maybe wrap them in tinfoil before putting them in a preheated oven. Then take, them out, turn it off & put them back in to finish as the heat comes down.
Thank you. Do want the spanakopita to crisp up without burning.

It's porn! For your birthday!
Always a safe excuse, right?
Aww, head pic kitty TJ looks just like our Mimi (who, we found out, just turned 18 in June!), even down to the identical neck smudge!
Happy Belated Birthday to Mimi!
I knew she was old (despite everyone who visits thinking she's just past her kitten stage) but we were thinking about 15 or so. Bumped into the woman who gave Mimi to us after inheriting her five years ago and she said, "Oh! It’s lovely that Mimi has chosen to bless you with her presence for so long. 😻
Oh, she can be a right pain in the ass sometimes but we love her.
Rocky Horror Picture Show is an excellent production but one has to wonder if not for Tim Curry’s performance would it have been the cult phenomenon it became? He was that good.
Rocky Horror started as a stage musical, originally in London. Successful, but not world-shaking. Tim Curry starred in that, too.
Riff Raff is the driving force behind it.
Without his utter commitment to the "bit" the rest of the show would have seemed a lot less special.
That’s a universe thing. Perfect person, perfect role coming together for a timeless performance.
Certain shows and movies almost never work with a different lead.
Imagine Beetlejuice without Michael Keaton.
The Graduate without Dustin Hoffman
Network without Peter Finch
Irreplaceable roles.
