I always preferred chocolate candies over artificially colored ones from my trick-or-treating haul, except for Sweet Tarts. Whenever my own kids went with their friends, I liked watching them horse-trade for their favorites after coming home, especially since artificial color would give one of my kids intestinal cramps and mood swings.

As a child of the 80s, my least favorite Halloween candies were those "peanut butter" taffies that came in the black or orange wrappers. Close second were dry homemade popcorn balls with no M & Ms or anything to sweeten them up.

Molasses candy. Removed any fillings, caps, or other dental fixtures. Even the dog be like no thank you.

I gave away the taffies, they were gross.

One of my childhood favorites, the Hollywood Milkshake bar, pretty much died in a fire, it turns out. https://www.historyoasis.com/post/milk-shake-candy-bar

I initially read that as "bags of penises" and wondered if lightly salted rat dicks really were appropriate for trick-or-treaters.

The fact that nobody makes a novelty candy "bag o' rat dicks", is a disappointment.

Check to see if the parents on the sidewalk are wearing a MAGAt hat.

Started to do some much needed yard work, but the sun feels so good with just a whisper of cool breeze...so..fuck it...now I'm siting in a lounge chair in my bathing suit. I'll get to the yard work with the shade takes over the patio. Most likely last chance for this activity until next year. Just gonna sit here and pretend I'm back in Greece.

Sounds lovely – enjoy! I'm already in a waffle long john top, looking at the last of the colorful trees.

Slept very well last night. It seems Day 2 of Birthday Weekend is destined to be The Quiet Day - keeping it local, not doing what I don't have to, prioritizing rest and relaxation over fun.

My problem with the chart is Okra doesn't top it. I lived for a summer in Memphis where I'm told they do know how to prepare Okra. My friends and my lover all tried to introduce me to the wonders of that vile pod. Pan fried, deep fried, baked, steamed, every way possible under the Sun and the slimy texture never failed to turn my stomach.

One night I was awakened by noise in the kitchen and came downstairs to find my two tween daughters sauteeing up a pan of whole baby okra for a midnight snack. Sprinkled with a bit of salt and madras curry powder. It was delicious. (I'm not even from the South and I love okra.)

MRobtheMathSnob's avatar

I'm with you on that one. It's not the flavor; it's the texture.

I'm eating chocolate licorice twists right now, and feeling delightfully monstrous. But mayo can go straight to hell.

“Boy, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel. It feels like a real desperation play to me, because it has got zero basis in the law.” —Republican election law expert Ben Ginsberg, quoted by Politico, on the Trump administration’s effort to invalidate Alaska’s election results.

"zero basis in the law" –yeah but when has that stopped Trump and his legal lackeys, or even MAGA-SCOTUS?

ManchuCandidate's avatar

Hard to stop people who think the law is an obstruction like wet toilet paper.

I like almost everything on that list... blue cheese and mushrooms get a hard pass though.

A friend of mine in uni got sick and tired of his housemates eating his leftover pizza and ordered a garlic, anchovy, hot peppers and something else. It stunk.

Don't get me wrong, I like all those things too (being of Korean ancestry... it's a given). I would eat that pizza.

But his housemates still ate it.

Add to the list—I love raw rhubarb and I also like liver (either pate or with onions). That plus that list above.

I guess it’s just what you grow up eating? Aside from the cilantro sensitivity thing.

I was allergic to eggs as a kid and didn’t have a taste for the “normal “ full USA kind of cooked breakfast, but there was a diner we went to once a year in Chicago that had liver and onions for breakfast and I LOVED it!
