Somehow the angle of Buddy's picture makes him look enormous, like something out of a Japanese monster movie -- "Catzilla", anyone?

I'm reminded of Zappa's live song "Cheepnis", a nostalgic bit about how, uh, unpersuasive the special effects were in the old movies; it's on "Roxy and Elsewhere" and features his astonishing live band from the late 70s (George Duke, Ruth Underwood, and others).

There is a fancy bookstore in Manitou Springs, Colorado that has this lovely cat. He is like a fluffy ambassador and loves to be petted.

Seeing him is the best part of shopping and I love books.

Buddy is a handsome fellow, as well as being the best grapevine guard.

Biff52 Lost Canadian's avatar

He's fronting. He looks mean as a snek, but he's a sweetheart. The grape arbor is more than 6 feet high and he can jump it from a dead stop.

You need him in congress.

Ta, Robyn. I cut up the pineapple and made our luscious fruit bowls this morning; we had leftover flowery green tea. Meccalopolis made the elitist avocado toast and lovely coffee, which we're now sipping. We have to go to Agway for propane, and we're hiking to our Top Secret Chanterelle Spot later. We're hoping for more trumpets. Our second anniversary is next month, but it's today on the Hebrew calendar. Trumpets and more chanterelles would be a great way to celebrate. Good day, beloved Wonketteers. We love and appreciate you all and we bless us all with love, health, peace, and grace.

Please, please stay safe. Wear a mask or two, wash your hands, sanitize when you cannot wash and let the sanitizer dry completely, stop touching your face, take Vitamin D, get a booster shot six months after your last and catch up on any other vaccines you need (and if there are children in your life, make sure they're vaccinated also, too), avoid indoor and crowded outdoor gatherings and when you must meet, remove masks only to eat, drink, and take quick photos, and stay the fuck away from us and anyone with whom you do not share a roof. Do this because you love yourself, and because we love you, too. Do this in memory of 27 Club member Treg and heroic Tony, Holly's pilot friend, among nearly eight million dead worldwide. Do this to honor the nurses and other frontline medical personnel (we adore you, all medicos of Wonkette, active and retired), especially ICU Hera Mrs Land Shark, RN. Stay safe.

Hey Robyn, you missed the best cheese commercial ever made.

Saying 'cheese' like that little girl was a thing in my family for years.

Second best cheese commercial - any Wallace and Gromit piece.

I still like the "cheese glorious cheese" one.

I loved that one!!!

I haven't seen much about the WH Correspondents Dinner except for reviews of The President's speech that were clearly from the BIASSS liberal media. I'm sure it was on-point, witty, and had just the right touch of humor and self-deprecation. Am I right, or what?

I've read that the material was SO bad that Sir Himself was adlibbing complaints about the writing.

It induced some sudden spine growth at CNN, the Sunday shows might be lit this week.

I read it was boring which is better than racist or fascist.

EyeQueue's avatar

It was bad. Called Chris Christie a fat slob, went at Ilhan Omar for "being so in love with her brother," had a go at Caitlin Collins for being a beautiful woman and not smiling, and some other shit I'm forgetting.

It was bad. And the fact that those so-called journalists sat there and gladhanded with him and played nice is, IMO, one sign that we are done for as a country.

Linda1961 aka Pollyanna's avatar

He recycled his same tired insults and "jokes," like about soon to be senator James Talarico being a vegan and hating women, or so I read.

EyeQueue's avatar

Yes, he did. And had a go at Adam Schiff for having a small neck and big head, which I don't even understand that insult b/c he looks perfectly normal to me, as does Talarico.

Damn. Something very weird and creepy is happening right this minute, less than 100 yards from my place.

About half an hour ago, I heard some loud cursing in the street. All I could really make out was "Get the fuck out!" repeated several times.

Now, a crew of four cops is talking to some people just down the block, and they had a young guy remove his shirt so they could photograph scrapes and bruises he received in some kind of altercation.

The hell of it is, if that guy is who I think he might be, that family has an old lady and a toddler girl living there. The little one, who must be about 3 by now, is as adorable as any baby ever was. The old lady, her grandmother, is perfectly sweet, or at least came across that way during a minute or so of isn't-your-grandbaby-cute chit-chat I had with her in the street, while they were out walking together. And the guy who got hurt, I think, is the little kid's uncle.

I couldn't really tell from that distance if it was him for sure. But the guy is Black, and AFAIK they're the only Black family on this block.

I sure hope everyone's OK, or soon will be. The hell of it is, I don't know these people well enough to ask after them. Just better mind my own business, I guess.

“Screech” posing naked was worse than Patti Davis Reagan and Joey Heatherton posing naked combined. If Princess Di had ever posed naked, I never would have looked. On the other hand, if Princess Michael of Kent had posed naked in a celebrity shoot, I would have stood in line at the newstand to buy a copy.

John Thorstensen's avatar

The late, great Catherine O'Hara had a character on SCTV called "Lola Heatherton" who was a washed-up, pathetically needy version of Joey. O'Hara was brilliant.

I read some about the Whitehouse Correspondents affair...

Despite having witnessed the same things as everyone else, I wondered if it could have been 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 bad...

It was orders of magnitude worse before we even get to the napping..

“For a long time, I’ve known their country and, you know, I own the Miss Universe pageant and Miss Venezuela always did very well in that pageant, so I know something about the country.”

Could I have been struck on the head so hard that I'm unaware of it?
