Can you believe that it's been exactly 10 years (OK, yesterday ) since Jon Stewart went on CNN's Crossfire and told Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson (who still wore a bowtie at the time) that their show was "hurting America"? "I wanted to come here today and say... Here's what I wanted to tell you: Stop. Stop hurting America." It was the moment when Jon Stewart definitively transcended his role as just a fake news guy, even as he emphasized that, as a comedian, he had a freedom to use comedy to tell the truth, but damn it, it would be rather nice if those in a position to really inform the public would try that, too:
Tucker Carlson is only the 20th or 30th best example of why there should be a nearly-confiscatory inheritance tax, but he is one of the more annoying examples.
So Tucker double downed after this it seems, as he started the Daily Caller. It's surprisingly derpy and baggerish for an obvious elitist like Tucker. I guess even the baggers take anyone these days.
I've never seen Crossfire, I or II, but I'm disturbed that the charge is "partisan hackery". I'll agree that hackery is bad, but the use of "partisan" as a swear-word pisses me off. I'm partisan as hell, and I think everybody here is too. A while ago, Alexander Cockburn wrote an article called "More bipartisan mush from the wimps". I've completely forgotten what it was about, but the title has stuck with me. I find Stewart too fond of bipartisan mush.
Although not ideal, I actually think competing talk points is an improvement over the Fox News model of a steady stream of one side's talking points. The problem here, of course, is that news is ratings driven instead of truth driven, so we're perpetually screwed out of honest information no matter what format they use.
The fact that not just one person, but several people up the chain of command, actually thought that reviving that piece of shit show demonstrates just what is wrong with our MSM
I think in this case 'partisan' isn't derogatory so much as it is descriptive, to differentiate Crossfire's hackery from regular old non-partisan hackery of a Wolf Blitzer or Candy Crowley. It wasn't the partisan nature of the show that made it hacktastic, it was the shitty execution and the godawful hosts.
Lol, I won't argue with that. While it's a great concept in theory, in practice it usually means the left gives up something to the right and doesn't get jack shit in return, as the GOP has become completely unreasonable

HELL nope.
It's owned by rich people?
I wonder if SMOTI is a Cards fan. Actually, right now, I hope he is.

Wouldn't you love to have a hidden camera in Tucker's dressing room after this beatdown?

Careful, now. I had to re-read "Ni-- er" a couple times to get your meaning.
2016? As in he's going to eat 2,016 pies? Because that's the only 2016 he has any chance of succeeding at.

You may be right about that; as I said, I never saw the show. I stand by my general point: fuck bipartisanship.
fuck bipartisanship

I hate to admit it, but I'd hit Sippy Cupp, as long as she promised not to spew any of her platitudes before, during or after
