We’ll read Bill McKibben’s "Here Comes the Sun," on how solar energy (and wind ‘n’ storage) can stop climate change & remake the world’s economies with justice for all ... IF we do it right.
You know how your hands get really cold during the winter? If we could figure out how to make them stay cold you could rub them all over your body in the summer and never need air conditioning!
I was driving past Yuma in the mid 90s when I spotted an F-15 flying up into the sky and launching a rocket that went further up into the sky. I have a feeling that Russia will bite off far more than they can chew if they do any orbital skullfuckery.
Simba listens to the news just now as Clark Monster lurks behind him about to jump on his tail. I think this new Z6II tends to expose more than my first one. I need to remember to turn the exposure compensation down a stop or so. Simba looks washed out like he was stoned or something.
Jezebel Chicken is a Southern favorite that brings together an irresistible mix of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. Each bite features tender, juicy chicken with perfectly golden, crisped skin—smothered in a playful sauce made from apple jelly, pineapple preserves, horseradish, and mustard.
Sprinkle chicken evenly all over with salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
Arrange chicken skin-side down, in a single layer in a large skillet, and place skillet over medium-high heat. Cook, undisturbed, until skin is crispy and well browned, 6 to 9 minutes. Flip chicken over and cook until golden brown, 4 to 5 minutes, adjusting heat as needed to prevent over browning. Transfer chicken to a plate, skin-side up. Reserve 1 tablespoon drippings in skillet; discard remaining drippings. (See Note.)
Meanwhile, for Jezebel sauce, stir together apple jelly, pineapple preserves, horseradish, dry mustard, crushed red pepper, and remaining 1/4 teaspoon black pepper in a small bowl until well combined; set aside.
Add shallot to drippings in the skillet and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until softened and fragrant, about 1 minute. Add green onions and garlic, and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to loosen any brown bits.
Stir prepared Jezebel sauce into skillet until combined. Return chicken to the skillet, skin side up. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until a thermometer inserted into thickest portion of chicken registers at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer chicken to a large plate. Continue to cook sauce, stirring frequently, until it can lightly coat the back of a spoon and hold a trail when a finger is run through, about 1 minute more.
Stir in butter, swirling pan until combined and sauce is glossy.
Spoon finished Jezebel sauce over chicken. Garnish with parsley.
NOTE!--If your chicken yields less than 1 tablespoon of drippings, supplement with some neutral oil like vegetable oil or canola oil.
Since we’re talking rescues, for those who don’t know, Linus was a rescue. Long story short, he came to my parents, in the Philly suburbs, from Houston. He came to them all skin and bones. He would eat a meal in 90sec. OldLadyClaire was so scared he’d make himself sick.
But he slowly learned that he found his forever home with OldMan and OldLadyClaire. That he would always be well fed and watered and treated; that he would always be warm and cozy; that he would be treated like a king.
Ten years ago, anti-Scientologist Tony Ortega published a list rating various celebrities based on their likelihood to leave Scientology. Thirteen of them were rated as “dead enders,” meaning they would never leave the cult under any circumstances.
Ten years later, three of the dead enders are dead and one is in prison. Turns out, Tony was wrong about just one: Laura Prepon. And I think she’s an interesting case.
In 2021, Prepon said she had left the cult five years earlier, which would have been 2016. Now, one of the reasons Ortega rated her as a dead ender was because she was extremely tight with the Masterson family. The allegations against Danny Masterson first became public in 2017. The fact that Prepon broke with the cult shortly before that raises the question: did she learn something about Danny that freaked her out? I don’t think she’s ever publicly commented on Danny Masterson’s case, but as far as I know, she wasn’t one of the That 70’s Show cast members who wrote the judge for leniency on Danny’s behalf.
That’s why Scientology has always fascinated me. The whole thing is obviously based on the delusions of a bad SF writer, yet it’s raked in billions from suckers all over the world.

The attendee who pressed Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood at a tense town hall this weekend was exposed as a former GOP staffer with “Christian nationalist ties,” journalist Marisa Kabas reported.
Saturday in Caro, Michigan, an attendee who identified himself as Tommy asked El-Sayed, who is Muslim, if he would disavow the Muslim Brotherhood, the Sunni Islamist organization that the Trump administration designated as a terrorist group earlier this year.
El-Sayed said he “absolutely” disavowed the group, but pressed Tommy on his motivation for the question. After a tense back-and-forth, Tommy admitted that he suspected El-Sayed would have dual loyalties — a longstanding Islamophobic trope that casts Muslims’ faith as overriding their loyalty to the United States.
As first reported by Kabas on her Substack The Handbasket, Tommy was actually Thomas Teepell, who previously served as operations director for Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) until February of this year.
When Kennedy was running for president, there were plenty of people who said he would be more loyal to the Pope and the Catholic Church than America. So that trope can work for any religion as long as you are enough of a bigot.
Oh, I spent the first 30 years of my life there and people down south are often surprised when I tell them that the same thing the follows "uppity" down by them follows in a lot of Michigan.
But El-Sayed is honestly one of the best candidates for anything I've seen in a very long time.
Once again, why isn't anyone asking candidates to disavow the White Christian Nationalists in places like Texas and Oklahoma, who are actively forcing their religion into public schools, in direct defiance of the separation of church and state?
We're supposed to be all in an uproar about a concern they've invented out of no evidence, and ignore what real people, already with political power, who happen to be aligned with these bad faith pearl clutchers... are actually doing.
Morning birding adventure was supposed to be to a local shoreline preserve with a marsh, but somehow I got the GPS instead set to a nearby location, that is part of the local water district. It's inland, but there's a big reservoir there and hiking trails. So, I wasn't too bummed and decided to bird there, and maybe do the marsh next weekend. Got good looks at a Hermit Thrush: these are migratory (although they are relatively short-distance migrants), and are showing up now. They can be hard to get eyes on: they like to skulk around in the underbrush. Also saw migratory sparrows including Golden-crowned sparrow and White-crowned sparrow. There were a about a zillion Acorn Woodpeckers there. I also heard a Hairy Woodpecker, but couldn't manage to get a view of it. I counted it, because I know what they sound like.

Oooh shit, it's creepy as hell.

I'd bet that Thornton uses those newfangled adjustable reading glasses. I have two pairs of them so I am confident I can find one.

Er, take beta blockers and whether you want them or not, cold extremities are perpetual. I do enjoy them somewhat in the summer.
I was on atenolol for years until I started passing out and falling down and hurting myself.
I'd be afraid that my hands would get stuck on cold. Few things ruin sexy times more than that.

Because Tommy's brain was just too darn feeble.

When Kennedy was running for president, there were plenty of people who said he would be more loyal to the Pope and the Catholic Church than America. So that trope can work for any religion as long as you are enough of a bigot.
El-Sayed literally uses Kennedy as an example in his rebuttal.
And points out that Cadet Got'cha has no problem inserting HIS religion into American law, which Cadet doesn't deny at all.
