As a fellow recovered crack addict, the treatment of Hunter Biden has really messed with my head. I have family who still, after all these years sober, regard me with suspicion and distrust because I was addicted to a drug. If I'm being honest here, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that for some of them, the fact that it was crack I was addicted to makes it that much worse for them to accept, since they view crack as a drug mostly taken by black people in poor neighborhoods. Total myth, btw. My experiences showed me that the addiction breaks down pretty equally along all race lines, and most poor black people didn't touch it at all because they've already seen what it can do to a person and they know how evil it is.
Thank you. Yes it definitely is a struggle, and I wear my victory over it as a badge of honor, which is why it pains me to see people be so casually cruel about others facing addictions. It is so easy to end up there, and people can think "oh no, I would never" all that they want, but the truth of the matter is that life sometimes just leads you down these paths and you don't always know how you will act upon that until you're in the same situation. One thing I know for sure is that stigmatizing addicts is terrible for their recovery.
However you got where you are, congrats. My path was a 12-step program (one that doesn't mind that "G.O.D. means "good orderly direction"), but however anyone makes it to the other side is a miracle, and it takes a lot of hard work. And I agree with everything you said in your original post.
Thank you Thomas! Also, I'm glad to be on this side of that problem today. I count myself thoroughly blessed every day and I'll bet you feel the same way. Glad you're here with me. 😁
As someone with the same disease as HB but with a lot more clean time, I can tell you that some legal organizations will never, ever let you forget about your past.
I've got an idea! Since Republicans are so concerned about drug users lying on this form, how about drug tests for ALL gun purchases. And not a blood test, the hair test which detects drug use for months! I'm sure maga will support that!
"It’s been seven years of Republicans desperately trying to find some crime to prove that the Biden family is a corrupt cartel of criminals, unlike the honest, hardworking Trump and his children, who would never use their family name to gain an unfair benefit."
Psyche! Made you look!
meanwhile, they stole everything that wasn't nailed down, and now that people are getting genuinely desperate, the fascists and their easy answers are rolling in. classic.
Late to the board, but didn't tfg's grown-ass kids have Secret Service protection, and if so, doesn't Hunter also qualify for such? Not that this would or should shield him from prosecution, of course.
Meh, if he is convicted in a court of law of doing something against the law, let him be sentenced to whatever the sentence is for that thing. No better way of showing that that's how it all works.
I’m a bit confused. Was this a DoJ investigation? If so, WTF.
I think the MAGAts are going to keep after Hunter because they’re trying to push OHJB to step up and “do something” to stop the ridiculous treatment. Then they’ll pounce. But totally ok if Trump had his interfering ass in everything.
They can throw Hunter in jail for 11 days as punishment for owning a gun while high for 11 days. It won’t change the fact that Trump is a deranged, corrupt, incompetent felon and narcissistic sociopath.
He owned the gun for 11 days. He didn’t use it. He owned up to his ongoing addiction, a hallmark of which is denial. If he admits he was struggling with addiction when he checked “no” on that form, assign a fine, suspended sentence, maybe a ban on owning a gun for a year. Move on.
Here’s a serious question, if 15-20% of Americans are struggling with some form of addiction, how many people checked “yes” on their gun application? I’m guessing few, or none. Instead of “honesty is the best policy,” how about a mandatory drug test before obtaining a gun permit.
This is the most interesting thing about the whole affair, to me.
Has anyone ever ticked the "yes" box on that form? It strikes me as the stupidest thing I've ever seen on a government form, which is saying something. Who's going to say "yes"? If you're that honest, then you know not to try to buy the gun in the first place.

Congrats on getting and staying clean. I've lost friends and family to addiction and know firsthand what a struggle it can be.

You know it! I live in gratitude today, no matter what the day brings :) And ditto!
Their need for vengeance is proof of their immorality.

Look! Geese!

who remembers that? or anything, for that matter. the first 'big lie' was "liberal media," like there are progressive billionaires. lol
librl peen!!!

So if he’s convicted and incarcerated, it will prove that a protected individual can be locked up!
If Bed Wetters' Mother is a Democrat and had not disowned him, then she deserves no sympathy.
Nit pick of the day: There should not be the s after the apostrophe in "Watters’s"
I learned that both are acceptable. Grammatically speaking of course. Watters himself is unacceptable.
Well ackshually the second “s” is permitted, because I looked this up after Mitch McConnell did the same s apostrophe s thing once.

Thanks, as usual, to Marcie Jones, for excellent coverage.
Is it known what Hunter Biden wanted that gun for? Maybe I should know that already, but if so, I've forgotten.
He was considering suicide, is my take. A very low point in his life.
I suspect you're right. It would account for Hallie Biden's freaked-out take on that gun.
Ta, Marcie. Those filthy traitors want to compromise HB's sobriety.

The two biggest lies on the background check are No on the drug question and No on being a member of a terrorist organization.
But mah freeedoooms!

There's a question on the form: Are you now or have you ever been a member of a terrorist organization?
Checking No on that one really speeds things along.
"I was a Republican, but I got better"
Jesus christ who writes these forms.
I suspect checking "yes" would also speed something along.
