I think this would be more likely if gerrymandering weren't a thing. They have created so many safe seats that the only election that matters is the GOP primary.
Not any district. There are far too many that are safe for republicans because the people who vote for not Republicans are highly encouraged not to vote at all, through various means
What's the count now? We need a virtual Nancy Pelosi to do some speculative math, show each seat's chances in the next election, and line up all the likely possibilities.
Unlike pence leaving the 6th, this one could actually be a pick up opportunity for democrats. It’s a big IF though. The state party would need to really get its shit together and find a quality candidate and they will need help from the national party as well Progressive ideas sell in indiana. Conservadems vs republicans they vote Republican every time
I was shocked by the ‘08 Obama win. I lived in Chicago at the time. I do recall on 2010, the Indiana governor ( a dude named Pence if I recall) pushed through some voter ID * laws to ensure a thing like that would never happen again.
* when I was a teenager, the local BMV in Fort Wayne was downtown and easy to get to for residence relying on public transportation and walking. Nowadays there are three BMV’s one of them is in a nearby town called New Haven. The other two are in areas far north and far southwest of the city. A bus runs to the social security office every other day. You need a social security card to get an ID or a license. Voter disenfranchisement at work.
Yep. Indiana was quietly doing all the voter suppression stuff long before other states like texas and Florida. It was a model for their laws. Also the extreme gerrymanders have made it nearly impossible for democrats to win. Thus demoralizing the party
The Obama win did accelerate this. Obama was helped by the NW corner of the state that is part of the greater Chicago metro area and the youth vote in the college towns
Of course that drove making it harder for college students to vote as well
He sounds somewhat sane by republican standards. Which of course means whatever republican runs to take his place will be a bat shit crazy MAGA loon. And the republican caucus will get even crazier as a result.
How much longer can this total lack of interest in governing coupled with “settling personal vendettas and prioritizing their own personal political ambitions” can last? Can party endure where everyone is busy knifing each other in the back?
Our Republican politicians in Indiana aren’t too bad as a whole- sure they’re mildly racist and sexist, but not insane. The thing about Rep. Brad Ellsworth and losing to Dan Coats. The latter had name recognition and had previously served. The latter was knifed in the back by that asshole Sen. Evan Bayh, the senator who chose not to run after Obama won the White House in ‘08. He left a seat that was his (and by extension, safely Democratic at a time when we needed a senate majority most). He did zero to help Ellsworth win that seat, only to come out of retirement in 2016 - and lose an election he surely thought he was going to win.
"He’s one of the minority of Republicans who didn’t vote to overturn the 2020 election."
Then it's likely it's not just a political calculation causing him to resign, but credible death threats to him and his family. That's SOP in the Republican party now.
Which is terrifying. We’d like to think the triumvirate of stupid, Greene, Gaetz, and Boebert, are rock bottom, but we know that they’ll find people who are even worse.
In the 1920’s , 25 percent of the white (male?) population of Indiana was in the Klan. I learned this at a history presentation given by my aunt from a white guy in the audience. He addressed my aunt to the room as a whole with this little nugget. There was a lot of uncomfortable squirming after he said t.
Based on that pic, he's upset that China allegedly controls the renewable supply chain. Did he offer any suggestions on how to change that? Or did he just want to rail against Joe Biden, President of China or President of Renewables, or President of Whatever Rep. Larry Bichon Frisé was railling against?
It's like the parable of the Loads of the Fishes: If God didn't want us fucking up this planet, he wouldn't have put the oil so deep in the ground, and made it taste so sweet. I think. I'm not really a bible guy.
"“Instead of continuing our work to pass all 12 appropriations bills that cut spending, securing the southern border, and holding the Biden Administration accountable"
For WHAT?
Say the words you mealy mouthed quisling...Until you stop this 'both sides shit' you are NEVER going to learn ANYTHING
You republicans are the problem...ALL the problem...Full stop...NOTHING that is going wrong right now is because of democrats
Why the fuck can't you just ADMIT you are wrong without pointing fingers at ANYONE else
OWN it like a MAN...That's your thing right? being a MAN...Being MANLY? For manly men, you sure seem to behave like YOUR definition of women and girls
I think part of the GOP plan to stop people from crossing the border is to make the US just as inhospitable to our citizens as their country is to them. Why would you go to the trouble of leaving Nicaragua to sneak into a country just as repressive and dangerous as the one you left. Those detention camps Trump wants will not be holding only people crossing the border illegally and awaiting deportation. They will hold hundreds of thousands of American citizens Trump and his loyalty cadre decide are their enemies.
"Buschon came in with the Tea Party revolution"
Ahh, so he's an OG country-wrecker. Good riddance.
I hope all of Trumps chickens come home to roost. Take him down and bankrupt his family. Then we heal.
I still believe any Democrat can beat any gop in any district as long as the Democrat hammers on Dobbs all day every day.
I think this would be more likely if gerrymandering weren't a thing. They have created so many safe seats that the only election that matters is the GOP primary.

"settling personal vendettas and prioritizing their own personal political ambitions"
At least it's an ethos. I suppose.
The Byrds were the very best vessel for Dylan songs, Jimi's "Watchtower" notwithstanding.
Nearly every Dylan cover is better than the original.

I have lib friends in Indiana 6th - lots of closet dems
Definitely lots of close dems. We have to keep a low profile. Unfortunately not enough to over come the gerrymandering though

No one will miss this idiot.
Nothing of value was lost.
"All this sinking ship-fleeing is usually a sign that a political party believes it’s about to get crushed in an upcoming election."
Oh, please, oh, please, oh, please.....
ditto!

Could sure do with out treasonous Jim Banks. Or fake populist Mike Braun
Todd young however is pretty decent as far as republicans go. At least he tries to govern. And he came out against trump after Jan 6
Yeah. Dick Lugar was the last of the true moderate republicans in the senate Got tea bagged by Murdock
Yep.
Big mistake running retread Bayh in 2016
Nothing like his dad. Progressive new dealer Birch Bayh
My grandparents were big Birch Bayh supporters- I remember hearing that name at age eight. A great guy.. who lost to Dan Freaking Quayle.
Yeah. That was a huge shocker

It's not just this guy's replacement that will be worse. You can bet that any repuQ who gets replaced by another one will be far worse.
Which is terrifying. We’d like to think the triumvirate of stupid, Greene, Gaetz, and Boebert, are rock bottom, but we know that they’ll find people who are even worse.
and they'll likely be found in Indiana
Pretty safe bet here in indiana
Why is Indiana so bad politically?
I know that during the Civil War era southern Indiana was all but a confederate state/region and that seems to have continued.
In the 1920’s , 25 percent of the white (male?) population of Indiana was in the Klan. I learned this at a history presentation given by my aunt from a white guy in the audience. Kokomo was the klans headquarters for a time
John birch society was real active here in the 60s and 70s

Bichon Frisé Libelz!
I was thinking about that too. My guess is, it's *not* - China controls the renewables supply chain, so... let's fix that!
Instead, it's probably - China controls the renewables supply chain, so... fuck renewable energy, drill baby drill!
