I tried telling my boss a while back that while the NRA's propaganda says that they are against criminals having guns, their actions and advocacy show clearly that they are for criminals having guns. They will insist, with a straight face, that if there had been a good guy with a gun in Aurora, the Batman shooting would've ended after the first shot. Because nothing could possibly go wrong in a dark movie theater, with everyone shooting randomly, and if the shooter had been hit, bullets would have magically stayed in his body, not going through and hitting anybody else.
Not strictly true. No live shooter has been stopped by <em>civilian</em> good guys with guns. Armed cops have stopped some, mostly just because their presence prompted the shooter to take his last victim - himself (yeah sure I&#039;m assuming maleness, mostly because I can&#039;t even think of a female mass shooter right now).
That time it was a damn good thing the good guy with the gun chose not to use it, because he was --&gt;&lt;-- this close to shooting the hero who&#039;d wrestled the gun away from Loughner.
