The day schools treat campus rape as a real crime - the felony, go-to-jail, get expelled, assault type of crime - we will start seeing actual, verifiable rape stats.
The argument goes that women who have to deal with the police will not report rapes, because the experience is like being re-raped. To which the only decent response is: women will report rapes to the police when there's a chance in hell that the rapist will actually be charged and tried.
and the fuckers were so stupid that they dressed in red as Crips. Try that in South Central, idjits, and see what wearing Bloods colors gets you while wishing everyone a Merry Cripmas
Meanwhile the frats are demanding reinstatement and a public apology, and also want UVA to essentialy prostrate themselves to "rehabilitate the image of fraternities and students at the university".
To which, if I were president of UVA, my response would be "go suck a lemon".
Would be really interesting to collect the names of all these debunking journalists . . . and see what % are former frat boys. My money puts it at 75% or better.
What has always amazed me, as a college professor, is the extent to which these institutions think they can do a better job of policing than the professionals, who, it must be admitted, aren't doing a very good job of prosecuting rape either. So the colleges and universities try to help things along with mostly half measures, within the limitation that, if they push back against the alleged perpetrators, the lawyers will remind everyone that the schools really don't (our shouldn't) have any legal standing. And that's the institutions that give more of a shit about its victims than this one does. Allegedly.
Any school that doesn't have frats is going to be extra-attractive to female applicants. Which might be something for the frat-infested schools to think about.
The worst part about this whole shitstorm? The actual underlying issues are going to be completely lost as this story devolves into yet another tired fourth estate food fight. As is so often the case, the only reason the media is getting excited about this is the opportunity to navel gaze and the chance to engage in adolescent sibling rivalry amongst the various publications. Whether Jackie was telling the truth, part of the truth or even actually exists will become completely immaterial as the various media organizations all wallow in online sniping and idiotic twitter fights- because the opportunity to report on themselves is absolute catnip to the so-called journalists who make up the MSM these days.
And then Howard Kurtz will bleat about how it's all the fault of liberals, while Jonah Goldberg will belch out some putrid gas about feminists, man...
Thank you for encapsulating all the various things about this that enrage me into a single article, Kaili.
This x 1000.

You must understand: some WaPo editors have children at UVA, or are themselves alums, or both.
I'll have a beer and a Cosby Cosmo for the little lady
