I lost both my 18yo cats last year -- one in August to bowel cancer, then the other in December to brain cancer. Loki's first symptoms showed up a week after Clawdius died. If they hadn't, I would absolutely have looked for a young friend for him. You just... want them to stay, as long as they can.
Where I live judges dismiss jurors for the day or after the verdict and require that everyone else remain in court for some 10 minutes so that the jurors have the opportunity to leave without coming into contact with other people involved in the proceedings.
