Ah. Thanks for the clarification. I really don't know the area. I do corporate events at the Gaylord Opryland every so often.
My parents did live there for about a year when my dad was finishing his PhD at Vanderbilt. I was about 2 years old. My mom says she'd take me to the Parthenon and I loved running up and down the steps. I went there a few years back and had a look around. Walked up and down the steps, but I'm in my mid/late '50s now so not so much running.
Just one discrepancy--It would likely be the MILITARY, not the police, who confiscated guns, should it come to that point. Would like to see how tough these guys really are..."Try that in a small town" with "the gun my grandpa gave me"
Fucking WaPo did an especially damn-shitty job "explaining the controversy" about this vile, racist song. Fuck the Washington Post; not even going to gift-link it.
It wasn't that hot here in CT when he claimed "heat exhaustion". Perhaps he realized our state has strict but reasonable gun laws in place. Those regulations also correlate to a significant drop in crime here (and the closing of a number of prisons because we don't need them). Maybe he noticed we protect everyone's civil rights here. Perhaps he noticed we don't tolerate vigilante activity such as he describes in his "song". In any case: no loss. We'll all be happy to see him back down 91 South.
Country music became Republican wallpaper (maybe not for the first time) during the decade of the 1990's. And under the New Code, songs had to be about humble "cowboys" who drive pickups and fish and wave guns around, and especially about the extreme virtues of "small towns" -- which was a bit odd, given that the people writing, recording, and producing the songs are mostly millionaires who live in the largest (capital) city of Tennessee -- not exactly a small town -- where they go to the most hoity-toity restaurants and do everything expensive. The affectations in the music are ludicrous: the male artists use a standard, "phony country" accent (it isn't the way they talk, BTW!), while singing with artificially-gravelly low notes (meant to convey masculinity) and half-yodeled high notes (meant to convey that they miss their mamma).
Firstly, NOT all country is conservative and never has been. It just like anything else, The MSM publicises the worst in this country, and since most of the conservative counts are MAGAs, of course they get all the press.
Honestly, I just assume anything and everything coming out of Nashville or the other various breeding grounds of country music is racist, anti-American, hate-filled crap. I allow individual songs to prove my assumptions wrong from time to time, but the assumption holds.
Again people, do not let YOUR bigoted ideas about country music rule the roost, Nashville is easily the MOST liberal city in Tennessee and the vast majority of country musicans there are VERY liberal.
Lying to the rubes is a sure fire marketing success. Aldean is just another poser who never lived in a small town His success has swelled his head to the point that he thinks he can do anything
Screw you Aldean, you racist hack and poser. Small town? Fuck you. I grew up in small towns, where everyone was up in everyone else's business, and spouses, They'd spend all week fucking each other over, then go to the church of hypocrites on Sunday and pretend they didn't see each other at the Saturday night drunk a thon the night before.
Small Town? "Harper Valley PTA" is the most accurate depiction of "Small town" America ever.
Aldean did not grow up in a smalll town at all, but in Macon, Georgia, the 3rd largest city in that state, and home to the very non-racist Allman Brothers Band.

Military are specifically barred from law enforcement.
And most police departments would probably not enforce gun confiscation anyway, at least not for the people who are worried about it.

At least his song dosn't comprise of ...Whiskey, beer, trucks, dogs, cheating women, rowdey nights and more drinking.
He's come around to saying his quite part out loud in song.
Nice of him to show his true inner thoughts for all to see and now we do.

In other Country Music news, Toby Keith won't be around much longer

Aw heck. If you want country sounding music, let’s whip up some kinda foo-foo drinks and listen to “Living and Dying in 3/4 Time” album.
Urban Cowboy… white and violent.

Siddown clown.

I notice they're not so tough in a courtroom when sentenced to a few years in the hoosegow. Even babies don't cry as much.
Personally, if it's country music, I prefer Dolly Parton.
Dolly is remarkably talented. Aldean is just another doofus doing top 40 in a hat .
At times like this, I miss the angry emoji
