That doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. With the Earth’s population where it is, the collapse of civilization would result in a massive die off of billions of people. Have you ever read Stirling’s books about exactly that?
Ayut. It is amazing, and a credit to our cleverness as humans, that we figured out a way to make something that ordinarily happens on a geologic time scale of eons, happen on a human time scale of decades. That said, what is shaping up is a nightmare scenario that probably exceeds all models because both the feedback loops were not well understood, and knockoff effects, like ocean acidification and de-oxygenization were barely accounted for and are 5000x more lethal to our species. So, drink up.
I was pretty impressed with Inslee's exit interview with Rachel. No whining, no poutiness, no fake-keep-yer-chin-up. More of a switch in tactics - he's still in the fight, just changing which path he's taking to reach his goals. I like that he's "open-sourcing" his plans. Good interview, good man.
Just saying, but climate change is NOT an existential issue for human survival. Hype is nice, but is harmful to credibility. Climate change is definitely an economic issue. It will also certainly threaten the agricultural self-sufficiency of regions and countries, although we cannot precisely specify which and how at this stage. This in turn will lead to sociopolitical turmoil on a large scale. Ecosystems will change and not all species will survive the change.
Aren't those sufficiently serious issues? Do we need to pile on unsupported apocalyptic predictions?
What do you think think will happen to human civilization if tens of millions of people have to migrate away from flooded coastal cities, to use one consequence of a warming climate?
Maybe not for the entire human race, but definitely for hundreds of millions of people and our modern society as we know it.
Yeah, if we get slapped back down to a few hundred million hunter-gatherers, our species will survive, but that would mean much to all of those who died because they couldn’t grow food.
Enjoy your opinions.
No, just the collapse of human civilization.
Happens all the time.

I hope that whoever wins the presidency for the Dems utilizes Inslee. He is my governor and has done great things for our state
Vanky. No doubt about it

it all makes sense now... ponies will inherit the earth.

Yeah, but existential issue for billions of people is still not on the same level as existential issue for human survival.
I'll argue that the current global rise of fascists is on the same level, possibly even higher.
This one's my favorite so far
Whew!
