I was a proponent of blowing more money on the Space Program. It's a better ROI and we don't have to kill a bunch of people. It also makes a wide variety of jobs, not just astronauts and scientists, but truck drivers warehouseman, building construction and maintenance and on and on. Federal spending keeps everything going.
Republicans threw money at the Apollo Project because it was us or the Russkies. After we got there first, they lost all interest, ignoring the bang for the buck that came out of the program.
