It’s because we lack any meaningful requirements, save for “American” and “at least 35 years old” to be potus that we are so hideously divided as a nation. Because although conservatives always pretend every Democratic potus is THE most radical leftist socialist who is going to lock all conservatives in a gulag, we have never had a “Republican” as unfit for any office (including Office Max) as Trump. Trump wouldn’t be possible if we required a few basic prerequisites, such as a degree in political science and a few years serving in local or state government. Trump himself used the 2016 campaign to boost his profile, never expecting to win. But once he tasted that sweet, nearly unbridled power, freedom from prosecution and endless daily flattery and fawning, he was hooked. It’s a horrifying precedent (and president) and if Dems ever control all chambers, they should create more requirements that prevent Ye or Diddy or Tucker C from becoming potus. If we learned anything from MAGA, it’s that letting the worst 40% of America decide who should lead us is a very bad idea.

A point of interest since you mentioned the Rosenbergs. Roy Cohn, who was the prosecutor at the Rosenbergs trial became the mentor and mafia attorney to Donald trump.

Who is the most flagrant, shameless, hypocritical, and contemptible betrayer of whatever intelligence and decency they once possessed: JD Vance or Elise Stefanik? Reasonable people may disagree!

Add Peter Thiel to that list of people that need to apologize to America, he backed both Vance and Masters (failed) to the tune of $22 Million in '22, for the party that would invalidate his own marriage and deny he and his husband their adopted children. He says he's not going to donate for the next election, but that doesn't rectify the damage he did, donating the same amount to Democrats might be the better action, asshole.

When words no longer have meaning, actions no longer have consequences. Or something to that effect, because Republicans are actively trying to associate certain words with scenarios or situations most people previously would never think of associating.

They’re doing it with word ‘fraud’ with Comer’s impeachment hearings. Trump committed fraud by lying on financial statements submitted to banks for loans. Biden commits “fraud” by loaning his bro money and his bro paying him back, while not telling people his bro “got all his money from the Chi-Coms” or something.

Eventually they’ll get to a point where people think “well, everybody does it. That’s just the way things are”, and corruption goes unchecked.

Republican voters are already there with their with their strong support of Trump and finding excuses for what he’s done. They’re probably at peace with other crooked politicians like Texas AG Paxton, governors, state legislators, etc. who reek of impropriety.
