My understanding is that the vaccine is ineffective once you are sexually active because the hpv virus is so common. I paid for it out of pocket because I was well past the age window, and it was about $500. I knew that I didn't have the virus, but the clinic tried very hard to convince me otherwise. I used their sliding scale to have a test proving that I did not have the virus.

Uh... no. "Back in 2007, Rick Perry, then governor of Texas... signed an executive order requiring all girls entering the sixth grade [to be vaccinated against cervical cancer]. Ani-vaxxers had less to do with preventing this than the Texas State Constitution, and the state's "weak governor" provisions. Even those who thought this an excellent public health measure recognized that Perry was trying to expand the Governor's powers (s/he can't issue this kind of "executive order") and never could. Texas liberals and sane people certainly didn't want to give any executive power to a fool like RIck Perry.

Exactly!! Cervical cancer highlights the hypocrisy of the anti-PP people perfectly. Caused by an almost ubiquitous virus in everyone over the age of about 25 (or whatever age is just above the age of the kids who started getting the vaccine are now), very curable when caught early, very easy to catch early with simple and inexpensive screening measures, but happens to be related to women's naughty bits, so....
