I really don’t think they will ever feel remorse. These bullies will grow up to be sadistic, psychopathic, Christo-fascist bigots just like their MAGA parents. Conservatives don’t have things like empathy, compassion, or humanity like normal people.
This may not be a popular thing to say but I would exchange bullies and racists 10 to 1 for hardworking immigrants illegal or not. I have had racists in my family and have had close friendships/relationships with people who were not legal in their countries. And guess what? The undocumented immigrants were a BETTER QUALITY of people ACROSS THE BOARD.
The people hating on immigrants are doing so from ignorance. Much of the poverty and mayhem going on in the countries these people are fleeing from has direct relations to OUR, the US policies and lifestyle. If there weren't so many GD American drug addicts (creating a demand for the drugs created in their land) - and the US didn't have a terrible history of supporting dictators and wars that impoverish their nations - these nations would be better off.
If the whining racists paid ANY attention at all to labor stats - there has been a surplus of entry level jobs. And many of the jobs immigrants take - are jobs Americans will NOT do for almost any money. So we will need to start paying to pick our own fruit. Where I live, housecleaners get $40+ an hour, because the average American won't do that job for less. Finding a good handyman or carpenter or contractor to work on one's house is damn near impossible.
Those that don't have jobs are NOT looking or trying hard enough. And that means being willing to move to find a job if necessary. Many of the poor Americans - are poor because they stay in the SAME DAMN place where the economy has been bad for generations - and keep whining that it doesn't get better. No shit Sherlock! No one is chaining your feet to the floor! Learn something from people who have enough ambition, resilience, dedication and innovation to leave their own country on foot and risk their lives to get a better life. You don't see them whining.
I say DUMP all these soft, whining, American racists onto a barge next to the interOceanic plastic heap and have them sort plastics in the sun for a lifetime. I want ambitious people who will be thankful for living in a country where they won't be murdered for not joining a drug gang.

What broke me was the story about the two kids from Uvalde. They were actually babysat as infants in the same house but had been separated until elementary school.
They became girlfriend and boyfriend and were inseparable. They texted each other to say goodnight every night. She had a trinket he'd given her that she attached to her bookbag.
And they were buried side by side.
I couldn't be more broken ever than I was by that story.
Now these things just make me rage. Pure, unadulterated, unfiltered fucking rage.

I was thinking this morning: I could live in a nation with 50 percent being just utter uninformed morons with no interest in learning anything, ever. That's doable, and since I've become a hermit more or less its easy to avoid the goddamn idiots for the most part.
But they're cruel and hateful and enjoy making others suffer. That's a totally different ballgame.
