Arapaio and PETA... both claim their anti-Latino bigotry is "for their own good": http://www.chron.com/life/p...

If Pam Anderson is so freaking veg friendly, she should have her fake boobs removed. Think of all that silicone that got killed just to give her big bazooms.

Thanks for the heads-up. That will make my signed copy of Mein Kampf a real collectors item!

It's true. They think that being vegetarian is all about intent, not biology.

And the irony is that anyone who can afford to buy fur is going to go right out and buy another coat. Way to think things through, PETA moonbats.

Thank you. The last paragraph especially, it made my Charlie Pierce-dar go off!

These really are two issues. One can be happy that animals' lives are being spared and not be happy with the rest of the conditions at the jail.

Once again, he took a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

I'm not sure what could be so wrong with promoting empathy and compassion in any setting, but especially in a prison. Good for them.

PETA and Pamela Anderson are simply commending the good decision to serve inmates healthy, nutritious vegan mealsβ€”not endorsing every policy at the prison. Serving vegan meals is a kindness to animals as well as to prisoners. Eating vegan foods can reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, cancer, diabetes, and a host of other illnesses, while increasing intake of important nutrients, not to mention it will save countless animals who have committed no crime from horrific abuse followed by the death penalty.

That's super special of PETA and Pam...but to call this a "good decision" or "a kindness" is ridiculous. Unless and until those prisoners CONSENT to becoming vegan, and CHOOSE that path themselves, this is little more than punitive bullshit...and I say that as the mother of an enthusiastic vegan who knows better - and has more respect for ALL his fellow creatures, INCLUDING jailed humans - than to impose his own choices on anyone against their will.

I would suggest to all concerned that they reread Kant's On Moral Reasoning, this time paying special attention to the bits about respect and autonomy being at the heart of morality.

Regardless of how you feel about Joe Arpaio, serving vegan food to inmates is a great idea. Animals raised for food are kept in crowded, filthy conditions and are hung upside down by one leg, dismembered, and skinned, often while fully conscious. Jail administrators should encourage inmates to discard their taste for violence.
