If Twitter closes down, then EM's foreign financial backers (Saudi Arabia, China, UAE) will prob do backflips. They knew he would sink the company, and a few $b out of the slush fund sure beats Arab Spring 2.0 or might attract a few late adopters to TikTok maybe another platform that's easier to hack/spread disinformation.It's a highly probable explanation for enabling someone with management skills so heinous to take over. These wealth funds didn't get to their size by not being able to value an open window to exploit.

"If we spent ½ on education than we do on the military industrial complex...."Most of these rural, red districts depend on military servitude as a de facto jobs program and tend to vote Republican. They also enjoy a constituency that is conditioned to "do as they're told".

More than a few years ago, there was a 60 Minutes expose on these agencies. It revealed that they were basically boiler room ops, and they'd buy blocks of debt, with the intention that they'd keep the profits on anyone they could actually squeeze. Using hard sell threats, they showed workers high fiving after making $k a week off people that were probably a hair's width away from homelessness.

I am not disagreeing with you but it seems to me there is a solid 30-35% that is either willfully ignorant or just plain stupid. (Creationist, anti-vaxxer, Trump-supporting, homophobic dickheads. I am willing to believe that good education at an early age onward could alleviate the worst of that. Certainly worth a try.

The dumbest thing about their hatred of Obamacare, that insurance company wet dream, is that it was originally a Republican program instituted when Mitt Romney was governor of Massachusetts. Of course then forcing people to buy insurance was a horror to Democrats, who were aghast that even the poorest people were required to cough up money to the insurance cartels.

Universities are rolling out credentials that expire, so in theory those ought to be dischargeable. Am expired credential would arguably be worthless, and the debt associated with it should be treated differently than a degree or something permanent.
