None of this is sufficient. Physics doesn't care about politics. We do what science demands, or we die. End of story.

Sigh.

If only we had had Gore, we could be zero emission about now.

This makes me tired and I am already so tired. We need more people trained in Renewables but we need more instructors which means pulling knowledgeable people out of the Renewables workforce to teach the youngs. But I’m so tired. I want to play in the sun and enjoy the spring. My stress levels are too high because I’m on the hook to develop renewable energy curriculum (i?) for multiple entities and still do my full time renewable energy job and be a parent and spouse and family member and … tired.

I saw a beautiful wind turbine blade traveling down the highway today. They are so pretty!

I’m tired, but we need someone to staff the trade fair. I’m tired but we need to write building code revisions. I’m tired but we need to pass on the knowledge in our heads that is far more up to date than the dated renewables textbooks.

Also also and another thing, the idea that low income homeowners will get more solar is still missing a major group of low income folks - the ones who live in manufactured homes. They’re generally not built strong enough for rooftop solar, and if they don’t have the right piece of land, there’s no room for solar on the ground. So until there’s a solution to that engineering challenge, a chunk of the population is shut out of renewable energy access. I don’t know if it’s a retrofit like hurricane straps or something.

The Latin plural of "curriculum" is "curricula" /nerd

I know what you mean. I'm tired too. I worked on grid storage batteries for 5 years, now design ebikes.

Its amazing how batteries have taken over garden equipment. Most places sell about 75% or more electric mowers/trimmers etc. People want change.

Way off-topic, but I started watching Elsbeth on Hulu, a CBS show starring the very interesting actress Carrie Preston and the always watchable Wendell Pierce. The annoying ads for other CBS primetime shows that I've never seen make a solid case for their causing or nurturing their viewers' collective paranoia.

There are methods by which we could reduce our carbon footprint to near zero, while at the same time reducing energy costs to the average American. As soon as we can figure out how to keep that from costing oil companies money, it can happen.

easelox is on timeout's avatar

Claw back all profits since 1956 or whatever the exact year the first study warned them of the existential danger.

OK, so probably not possible, but let's take anything we can get, and if all the execs and managers emd up in jail, well woops.

RRJKR's avatar

Make developing and implementing renewables more profitable than extracting transporting and refining oil

Courser's avatar

If we could simply cut all the fucking subsidies to the oil & gas industry going forward that would make an enormous difference. But that's only possible if Joe wins. I'm hopeful about his chances but suffer bouts of the vapors about the election on the regular. BOO!

I understand TFFG is comparing Biden to Carter, and thinking that's an insult.

RRJKR's avatar

To MAGA morons it's an insult, to rational people with even half a brain, it's a compliment,

oscarphile's avatar

To self-professed Christians it SHOULD be a compliment.

While reading this piece by Dok, I thought, "this should be on the front page of every newspaper." Afterwards, I began to read today's NYT, and surprise, there it was. The headline, though, was "Sharp Reversals of Climate Rules Hinder Economy." Fuck the NYT, and all that, but this inability to never look at the long term benefits is exactly how we've reached this fucked-up state of the world.

oscarphile's avatar

In the long term, Miami Beach will cease to exist in ten years, and 3/4 of Florida in 50, if these climate policies get rolled back. And every day it's getting harder for me to give a fuck about them.

Hasn't anyone considered President Biden would get better coverage from the NY Times if he posted his Wordle and Connections results on social media each day? Come on campaign staff, get with it.

I've recently watched a few early episodes of "Columbo," especially the ones from 1971-74, and it's striking that when they show panoramas of Los Angeles, you really can't see much except smog. Someone should force the reichwing and the operators of the big polluting plants to watch the transition from "really no view except a few hazy buildings off in the distance" to today's "Oh, look, there's a huge city there," plus films of kids struggling to breathe, plants that are spindly and weak, people coughing and gagging, and so on, until they get it. Either that or clang their heads together like cymbals. No, assholes, there's not a separate planet you and the other Rich Fuckwads can go to when you've destroyed this one for profit.

California was the first to implement a Clean Air Act for a reason, and why we get a waiver to set more stringent emissions air quality rules. It was absolutely terrible in places like LA.

It's a pretty interesting history of air quality and emissions efforts here in CA for anyone who is interested: https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/about/history
