Think this will survive the wrath of MOHELA too? I'm sitting here on the banks of Lake Champlain, so I can claim standing to block this using MOHELA as a proxy. It's precedent now.

My loans were also forgiven!!

In the United States, there is NO State supported religion. As long as you don't violate Civil Law or Local Ordnances, ( No live animal sacrifices for instance) you are free to practice or not practice whatever you wish However, you are obligated to leave it at the church door. and it cannot enter into public life. That is the way it is and the way it shall remain.

You haven't been in the US for very long it seems. Try teaching that in Florida and Rhonda Santis will drop you into the Gulf of Mexico from a helicopter.

college should be free for everyone. It could easily be incorporated into the public school system K-16 rather than K-12 which was established back in the 1920s 100 years ago!! Eliminate summer vacation, which has no purpose anymore, and people would matriculate at 20 with the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree.

Congratulations! I also got a notification with the blessed zeros last week. I can't believe it. I really thought I would go to the grave having paid back what I actually borrowed but still owing four times as much due to the interest and years of shenanigans by my servicer.

So my loan servicer of the month, Edfinancial, moved my loans to some other servicer, something like "John Barron Financial", I think, and I have no login credentials or ability to see my loan balance. Is anyone else having issues contacting to their servicer-du-jour?

I had the same issue with Sallie Mae. If you contact The Dept of Ed, they have all the information on your loans.

I'm so pleased for you Dok, and for everyone else whose lives will be immeasurably improved by this

I was one of the 804,000 that was notified on July 14, 2023 that my 29-year old loan was going away. My loan was discharged on 08/15/23, the day after a nice federal judge kicked the Koch Bros CATO Institute to the curb for lack of standing in trying to sue ol’ Joe and his relief efforts.

This morning, my StudentAid.gov account had a $0 balance.

Huzzah!!

Thank you Joe.

I am happy for everyone that this will help! It will not help me, because I make too much money and have very little left anyway - just a hair over $10,000. I was hoping for the 10K in Biden Jubilee Bucks making it through. I will just continue to pick away at my payments for another year or two at double the required minimum until its gone forever.

I'm one of those "we's" and idk about you, dok, but I have had to go back and recheck my email and the student aid website at least 10x because I still can't quite believe it

I guess I shouldn't complain - I did not apply for a PSLF when they let people do it backwards (but I also didn't quite have 10 years in appropriate agencies); my loans have never been huge (thanks mom and sis); and my interest is low (about 4%); my payment also very small (less than $200) That said, I have been doing my monthly payment all through the forbearance and I'm now below $10K. I was really looking forward to a statement with a balance of $000.00

Having to pay until July 2024 is going to suuuuuck since I am not FML poor anymore. BUT with 14 years under my belt, being in forbearance/IDR/ICR for most of those 14 years I think I will qualify for forgiveness by next July. My principal was $15,000.

For funsies (it was not funsies) I decided to look at my principal, how much I had paid and how much of my remaining balance of over $8000 was interest and how much was principal. It's a little over $7000 in interest. And like $1075 principal.

FML I was poor.

I applied for SAVE last week and it gave me a handy repayment calculator. I’m going to be paying less than half of what I was paying before, and my payoff/forgiveness date is earlier. I was very happy to see it! Thanks, Biden.

That's what I wondered when I got the notice from Mohela. That's why I went directly to the Department of Ed site
