"I believe my record as president, my leadership in the world, my vision for America’s future all merited a second term"
(reprint from my post on Bulwark's Triad this morning.)
"Based on his leadership, record as POTUS, and his desires to see his vision of the future through, Biden was more than worthy of a second term. Still, given how the last eight to ten months have taken such a serious toll on his physical and mental health I need to question if he had/has it in him to cope with the stress for another four years. The multitasking required of him if he ran and was reelected (as I think was a solid possibility) would continue to grow: running the country, leading the Free World, trying to prevent WW III -- a probability that must be addressed given the asshat and dangerous actions of Putin, Xi, Kim, and Netanyahu, among others -- and trying to navigate the obstacle course of bovine scat being constantly thrown in his way by the MAGAdroids would just accelerate Biden's aging process. "He noted that when he took office, America was still deep in the pandemic and the “worst economic crisis since the Great Depression,” and that he was sworn in following “the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War” — but that winter of our discontent has largely passed because Americans came together, most of us, to get things done."
IOW, the Fulvous Flatulence is right: Biden is *the* worst POTUS in the history of the US (this opinion being entirely subjective with few actual facts -- and a whole bunch of alternative facts -- within). He undid pretty much everything the Mango Malignancy "achieved" during his one (and hopefully only) term in office. And there is still much more to be untangled; the Goldenrod Grotesqueness tied the federal government into a colossal Gordian Knot.

"“We finally beat Big Pharma” was the line he meant to say during the debate"
As Yogi Berra said, "it ain't over til it's over." Is there anyone out there that thinks that Big Pharma will just walk away from the obscene profits they've enjoyed for so long? Should the RINOs take over government in Jan, you can bet your last dollar (the one you planned on using to buy an essential prescription) that all price caps will be rescinded no later than noon 21 Jan 2025.

"And today, violent crime rate is at a 50-year low."
This depends on to whom you are listening. Those lying statisticians over at the FBI are doing so in aid to the Dems (weaponized justice system and all that, don't you know):
"Violent crime dropped by more than 15% in the United States during the first three months of 2024, according to statistics released Monday by the FBI.
The new numbers show violent crime from January to March dropped 15.2% compared to the same period in 2023, while murders fell 26.4% and reported rapes decreased by 25.7%. Aggravated assaults decreased during that period when compared to last year by 12.5%, according to the data, while robberies fell 17.8%." https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/10/us/us-violent-crime-rates-statistics/index.html
Meanwhile, public perception is that crime is increasing, and the RINOs lie and bloviate about the growing rate of violent crimes. So... the FBI and the Dems note the decrease while the public believes the opposite with their fears being stoked by the New GOP. Unfortunately, there is no cure for low-info voters caught by a false narrative promoted, or at least not contradicted, by the MSM and the Right wingnuts.
I also feel a little twinge of guilt for being so excited for Kamala after Joe has done so much. I was absolutely going to vote for him, no question. But this reaction to her candidacy is of incredible proportions. Biden has to feel a little let down by us. I'd think it might sting a bit to drop out of a race like this only to have a huge surge of support for it.
That speech conformed, at least to me, that Biden has undergone an apotheosis from politician to statesman. For what it's worth, I think the least we owe to him is excitement over his chosen successor.
I think he can and should see this as a validation of his excellent judgment in choosing her, mentoring her and backing her. It's fair to wonder exactly how much the media vendetta against him fueled the focus on him when a similar focus on tfg is far more warranted.
Same. And I can’t help but feel people undervalued his skills, his experience, and his ability to get shit done. He did that as VP too. Harris is great but she doesn’t have his experience.
I see that a lot of what happened is ageism. I know I’m out of the mainstream with that opinion.
if we are indeed to pass the torch, nobody is going to have his experience. we will have to learn to find those who have sufficient experience and talent, despite the fact that they do not have as many years in on the job.
There don't seem to be a lot of folks remembering what he and Hunter just got finished going through, and how the Confederates harassed Ashley ... but he has been through a WHOLE lot.
I thought so to. That's the thing about Biden's gaff. You still know what he means. It's a far cry from Trump's weird ramblings. I'll always be pissed at the media for giving Old Joe a hard time for mixing up words that are easily parsed.
The haze in the skies here attests to a number of wildfires blazing here in eastern Washington. Between the smoke and the astronomical pollen count those of us with allergies or chronic respiratory issues are HATING it right about now.
“I do think a little toxic masculinity would help her.” So apparently Castellanos wants Harris to tell boys to bully and gay-shame their peers and to think of emotions as effeminate.
Literally had this conversation two days ago. We really fuck up our young men by not allowing them to be complete human beings, with predictable results.
I’m a hard motherfucker, and I cry a lot. I can fix engines. I can sooth hurt feelings. I can make beautiful sounds with bone and sinew and wood and steel. It’s OK to be many things.
Right up there with "All we need you to do is DESTROY multicultural, equitable, civil society in order to save it" because we should obviously be catering to the same people who have *always* been reactionary chodes in opposition to every example of progress this country has ever achieved. :P
I’ve said in the past that MAGA is a personality disorder presenting as a political party. I’m glad to see articles like this unraveling that thread. Thanks for sharing it.
As validating as it is to hear you say that, that piece has been out for ... awhile.
I don't know how to feel about the fact that I've been referring it to people pretty much since it's been written but people are just now starting to see the parallel.
Perfect speech.
"And if we can laugh out loud and dance goofily while doing it, so much the better!"
Emma Goldman would approve.
Ta, Dok.

“water over the damned”
This could be a great book title. Love your wordsmithery, Dok/
I cried at the end of his speech.

I did as well. I kind of feel like the Democratic party let him down. But, Joe's a bigger man than all of us ... he decided to step aside.
Now it's time to LFG.
Love how it turned out, but HAAAAAAAATE how it went down

I agree with you! I'm just frustrated that we as a culture don't seem to place any value on wisdom and experience.
no argument here, since i'm an oldz.
I agree with you, but I also see a man that has worked hard and deserves a rest.
This.
There don't seem to be a lot of folks remembering what he and Hunter just got finished going through, and how the Confederates harassed Ashley ... but he has been through a WHOLE lot.
I thought he meant, "We beat Medicare price gouging."
I thought so to. That's the thing about Biden's gaff. You still know what he means. It's a far cry from Trump's weird ramblings. I'll always be pissed at the media for giving Old Joe a hard time for mixing up words that are easily parsed.
Yes! Trump's shriveled brain makes up words for him, like the recent "imboten" for "abortion."
Politico:
DNC gives would-be Harris rivals 3 days to declare
I suspect the number will be 0.
Marianne Williamson wants those delegates...
let's see her get them. what is her experience again? i seem to forget until i'm reminded every 4 years, and then i'm still unimpressed.
Dude, she's been a candidate 3-4 times this year alone.
Experienced in Woo-woo?
that might work for the other side, but how come she keeps bothering us?
Maybe if we keep yawning in her direction she'll get the message and go away.
if ignoring her all these years hasn't dissuaded her, i fear that yawning may have little effect as well. :)
i bet sinema picks up the baton from manchin.
& she might go back to some of her 2003-06 positions to peel off altleft support & try to recreate the bernie-hillary dynamic of 2016.
I want to be shipwrecked in the Blue Lagoon with Travis Fimmel, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
And what a force she is in the party, too.
I suspect Kamala will lose seconds of sleep over the threat she poses.
Microseconds
Something else OHJB can do:
"Hey courts, you know that order waiving student loans? It's an OFFICIAL ACT. SCOTUS says I can do it."
I hope he does.
All that debt is a national economic concern and a threat to economic stability.
The world used to have debt forgiveness events and it massively cleaned up economies each and every time.
heh

can't she bully the toxic masculines? i mean, i'd be here for that.
That guy is such a weirdo.
Castellanos (whoever that is) can fuck all the way off with his call for more toxic masculinity.
It's probably a good thing that I can't get out of here by myself.
But there are a few people like THIS toxic abomination my black metal stick and I would like to track down and have an...impact upon.

Why won't Democrats just be more like Republicans so Republicans vote for em nnnhghhhhnnnggghhhh?
Even then the Republicans would vote for a convicted felon instead of a decent Democrat who had the same policies.

It's kind of gratifying to hear a former insider say "we were complicit with normalizing and enabling terrible things."
What? Who?
Fuck it, it's just too stupid to care.
Dok the poet, thanks for that.
I don’t know how to link to a wonkette article within wonkette but it’s at the top of the page -

Don't tell Jill.....
That, also too.
