His tombstone should give his dates of birth and death, embellished by "GOOD RIDDANCE"

I'm originally from Connecticut, so fuck that guy.

I've been pissed at him since he ran, ostensibly as a Democrat, to the right of Lowell Weiker in 1988, and I've seen no reason to improve my opinion of him based on anything he did since.

Better off without him, as far as I'm concerned, just a damn shame he lived so long.

So, I read someplace that we should be sad that Holy Joe died. My first thought was, why?

I mean, really, why should we (presumably Democrats) be sad that he’s gone. Utterly useless to the Democratic agenda and completely irrelevant, rather than serving the people he served only Joe Lieberman. Everything he did, every position he took, was only to benefit him.

No loss, really. Sanctimonious old coot. His family may miss him, but that’s about it.

The Buffalo Beast ALSO found him loathsome in 2008:

"7. Joe Lieberman

Charges: A fickle, flabbery fiend reviled by both parties, Lieberman somehow finds himself more powerful than ever, failing forward by virtue of the Democrats' unfalteringly chumpish lack of discipline. After promising that he was "not going to go to…the Republican convention, and spend my time attacking Barack Obama," Lieberman went to the Republican convention and attacked Barack Obama. But that was just the beginning of his descent into a self-dug hole of betrayal that should have proved inescapable. Lieberman thought it was "a good question" to ask if Obama was a Marxist. He campaigned not just with McCain, but with Palin and down-ticket Republicans, another thing he said he wouldn't do. But the most loathsome trait Lieberman exhibits is that most loathsome of all: Smearing dissent as treasonous. The kind of suppressive asshole who would accuse you of helping terrorists by beating him at checkers should not be Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, and is not someone worth rewarding for his own dissent.

Exhibit A: "In matters of war, we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril." "Sen. Obama doesn't come to this debate with a lot of credibility.”

Sentence: Lieberman awakes to find himself in the body of an impoverished Iraqi living in a small apartment with 12 family members and no electricity. Shocked by this inexplicable turn of events, he stumbles outside and cries to God, looking up just in time for the white phosphorous to hit him in the face."

I am positive he wouldn't bite the bullet and become a Republican for no other reason than to be a pain in the ass.

From the late, lamented "Buffalo Beast" list of 50 Most Loathsome Americans 2005:

"28. Joe Lieberman

Charges: Technically there are 55 Republicans in the Senate, but that's not counting their favorite shill Joe Lieberman. He's a Democrat because -- well -- he's from Connecticut. And he's Jewish. But Lieberman has spent his time since "losing" to Bush/Cheney in 2000 spooning the White House and attempting to inoculate their increasingly insane policies from legitimate criticism. Resembles Tex Avery cartoon character Droopy Dog in voice, demeanor, and spinelessness.

Exhibit A: "Freedom of religion doesn't mean freedom from religion." Apparently, it also doesn't mean freedom from asinine revisionism.

Sentence: Made into Oval Office footstool."

Ta, Dok, and thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite movie lines. I loathed his face, I loathed his voice, I loathed and detested the No Labels BS. He was an enabler of Republican fuckery unto death. I shall not miss him.

Lieberman may have been under donor pressure to be tough on Iraq and Islamic relations, but I wonder where the opposition to a government insurance option came from. It wasn’t Connecticut voters. Perhaps some combination of Hartford-based insurance companies and Greenwich-based PE funds.

My perception is that nothing of any particular value was lost. Also fuck Al Gore for putting this guy on the ticket 2000. Jesus fucking Christ what a mistake that was. Imagine how different our world could be right now. In short, fuck Joe Lieberman
