The same article said WH staffers called her "Princess" behind her back, and Jared was the Slim Reaper, I think.

When you repeatedly and loudly say that programs that help poor people get liveable wages, child care, affordable health care, and education beyond high school are too expensive at $350 billion a year, what does that say to most people? It doesn't say "I want to help poor people" to me. Manchin has made a point to voice his opposition to the entire bill while saying he wants to help poor people. But he has never said what parts he wants cut.

You are falling into the Republican trap of insisting someone needs to explicitly say certain words before you can call them out. Like Trump and his "do us a favor" during a conversation with Zelensky, leading to his impeachment. Do you think a shop owner does not realize it's a shake down when a mob guy comes in and says "nice store you got here, be a shame if anything happened to it like when your neighbor across the street got burned out." No, he's not wishing you good luck. Especially when he follows up with "how about contributing to the neighborhood improvement fund at $150 a week." Which is not really giving you a choice, if you are smart.

Nah, idealists don't shit on the working class to make their rich buddies richer...Manchin has NO CONVIXCTIONS whatsoever...He is for sale to the highest bidder...Maybe we can do a go.f.m and pay him to do the job we assumed he'd do since he ran under OUR democratic banner...I mean, since he's for sale and all

Manchin will agree to the $3.5T figure, if $2T is tax cuts for the 0.1% and the total deregulation of all businesses. And Hyde is ratified as the 28th Amendment. And the repeal of the EPA, OSHA, IRS. And letting JPMorgan and Goldman $ucks handle all federal retirement and SS investments. And privatizing Medicare/Medicaid, with his daughter as CEO.

Of course, he'll drag the process out, not agreeing to anything until he gets his first demand. Then saying he won't vote for anything until he gets the second. Then the third, then the fourth, etc. So sometime when the entire mid-west is a tidal basin, from the Rockies to the Appalachians, and north to the Canadian border, he might finally get around to voting for it. The good news is, we'll all be long dead by then. But at least we will not have died in vain, as bipartisanship and the filibuster were preserved!

"It's been 10 years since Occupy Wall Street and the anger over wealth and income inequality has only grown stronger and more mainstream." - and more deflected into racist nativism. That was always the Achilles heel of Occupy - conspiracy theories and fascists were accepted as long as they could keep it quiet. But "We Are the 99%" is now a slogan used by white supremacists and people who really believe in Satanic pedophile elite conspiracies.

I've never been to West Virginia and have no current plans to go there, but what I know of it is pretty scenery and ignorant people living in poverty - kind of a Deliverance ambience. Regardless, does MANCHIN ever go there? Does Manchin spend all his time in D.C. and Virginia? His daughter's story shows he has less soul than she does, but really, I'm amazed at how cruelly he wants to treat his constituents.

You really don't know much about this stuff. If you need to means test applicants, you need to spend MORE money to hire testers. Since he's so freakishly frugal, the increased cost would make it too expensive. I'm pissed at him for what he did say, that he won't support a $3.5 trillion bill. But if you want to just be an asshole, proceed.

I think he knows, but he gets paid to be obstructive.

History? If he wants to pay attention to the lessons of history (he doesn't really, to be sure) he could take note of all the people and organizations that refused to see what was right in front of them and act accordingly. Like Tsar Nicholas, as Robyn says. Also the Renaissance Popes (several of them in succession) who could have avoided the Lutheran schism by acknowledging the corruption in the Church of Rome and reforming it, if they hadn't been too occupied with grift and their mistresses. George III and Lord North could've prevented the loss of the American colonies, too, by just opening their eyes and being a bit more reasonable.None of them did.Safe bet the Republican Party won't either.

I like my corrupt pharma execs how EpiPen users dislike themselves: COVERED IN BEES.

This is insane. WV is crumbling, and Manchin just doesn't care.

But that assumes people will link the policies that they like, with the benefits that they end up receiving, with the politician voting for them. As we've seen many times in recent elections, there are quite a few people who will vote for liberal policies when they're directly on the ballot, while using the very same ballot to vote for candidates who are outspokenly opposed to those policies.
