It's not exactly a secret, and it works well. It makes younger generations invest in their own future and the future of the naiton, which is healthy for the economy.

A reminder, though: SSI is not an investment; it's a tax. Your money is not being "set aside" for your own future. You are paying for the retirement of old people now, including your own parents.

I'm just at the point where I get a small paycheck bump around fall so I absolutely hate the idea of raising the level...oh wait I'm not a selfish asshole so I hope they actually action this.

If NC can do it, WVA can do it. Someday coal will no longer have that power.

One of the prettiest camping trips I took was canoeing through the extremely misnamed New River gorge.

The tax cap is on salaries; I'm talking about the income from things like capital gains and investments.

Fire or not, I cannot commit any pee to this man at this time!

Could be. OTOH, that's part of the appeal for tourism/retirement. I mean, Roanoke and Ashville did it.

I don’t think it should require a tax upon a specific generation on behalf of their elders.

In other words, you oppose having Social Security. Check back with us in a decade or so.

You have a state pension and are covered by husbo's plan. You want to double-dip in the public pot?

A fair number of Americans have neither a pension nor a husband and are paying the same SSI taxes as you, just sayin.

The difference between Manchin and Sinema is that Manchin has never pretended to be anything other than a conservative dem. Sinema fooled people into believing she was a lot more progressive than she is

I am not unaware of other people. I guess I didn't explain properly.

I started working in 1967. Until the early 1970s, it was private company work. I was paying into Social Security. Then I started working for the state

In 2003, I was vested in the pension and then retired from the state. I began to work at private employers so I could beef up my future SS. Therefore, learning about this "reduction" was NOT something we expected when I turned 65 in 2018.

My SS was reduced BECAUSE of my pension and my husband's SS. They told me to get in touch with them "If something happens to you husband."

Full story.

I'm from WV, and I say nice things about Manchin all the time. I say he's the best that we can do for a Dem in a statewide election. And that's all I'm gonna say.

Manchin is part of the reason we can't get rid of extraction industries.

Joe Manchin's typical constituent is exhibit A for why raising the retirement age is ridiculous. Imagine being 69 year old coal miners, construction workers, waitresses and chambermaids. Even if it were humane they'd be getting disability within a year or two of 62.
