Capito, the kind of senator you are likely to get in place of Manchin in WV, was apparently more than happy to strip insurance from huge numbers of her own constituents.
I mean, I disagree with him on that shit, too, but a guy who takes the opposite positions just will not be elected in West Virginia, period, full stop, end of story. It's hardcore Trumpian conservative, wishy-washy blue dog Dem or nothing at all. You gotta take what you can get and not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Oh, my dear lord, what we will get if there's no Manchin is Patrick Morrissey. That is much much worse than Shelley Moore Capito. Capito is awful -- Morrissey would be be down at the Ted Cruz/Tom Cotton level of shit. In the house Capito was in the 10% of most moderate R's. Morrissey would be on the ass end of that scale...
Of course, it was open to unaffiliated voters and Donald Trump was the last man standing on the other side so the rat fucking opportunity was there for those who wanted it.
But, I'm told by BernieBros that this could not possibly have been a factor.
And there's the rub. When you gotta vote for a guy from your party who's against most of the things the party stands for.
Edited to add that as of 2010, he voted against gay people serving in the military. So check that box, too! The only issue he's to the left on is healthcare. THAT'S IT. So we should now become single issue voters, I guess.
