Kasich is a threat to cross over into the undecided vote, but that means he could risk losing some of the base. That seems to be the dilemma for the RNC in general lately. All they can do is a bunch of double-talk and hope nobody is taking notes, which they are

To be fair, it was large rafts of floating debris that caught fire, which is something that happened in plenty of other urban river corridors as well in the past. The unfortunate thing about this historic incident though is that it obscures the fact that the Cuyahoga Valley above (south of) the city of Cleveland is one of the most stunningly gorgeous places that you will find anywhere. It is very characteristic of the rural, non-industrialized parts of northeastern Ohio, a region that is truly a slice of heaven on earth (and this is coming from a Michigan native). The unspoiled Ohio Country was a precious jewel of real estate that had been highly prized and fought over for centuries prior to the arrival of Europeans. Even now one can appreciate why after spending some time there, especially in summer. Take a picture here, take a souvenir.

Perhaps (but who knows) they'll be quite pleased when we stop beating them to death with our shoes. I don't know about the smart bush and his feelings.

I worry less about someone who acknowledges climate change than an outright denier. Deniers are irresponsible. Now, he's already cut some emissions. This type of conservative is far less dangerous than someone like Walker who wants to ban the term "climate change", or Cruz who seeks to defund NASA earth science.

their constituents all think they are going to be raptured so no reason to worry about climate change.

i had a brother-in-law who 'knew' the rapture was coming any day now (30 years ago) . . . he worked in QC at a nuclear power facility . . . i think i finally convinced him that it might be better to stand before his god if that happened and be able to say "at least i tried to leave the place clean"

[ maybe it worked . . . but it was a while before i slept nights again ]

Toledo area reporting in! We've been getting near daily updates via our local rag about whether we should stock up on drinking water because we're gonna go all Thunderdome on each other again, or if we're okay to pretend we're not living in a third world country for another day.

Seriously, last year was a goddamn mess. People tend to overlook the economic impact of the water crisis, because restaurants (of which there are many here) had to close, unless they had a magical source of clean water. Restaurants closed -> no business -> no money for owners or employee. Hospitals had to get all of their laundry and crap cleaned elsewhere also. At least we had lots of places giving out free water, like the National Guard. Other places did price gouging, because capitalism.
