The supreme court on Monday ruled against the Trump administration and its attempts to force California election officials to segregate and not count ballots from people that the justice department claims are non-citizens. The ruling follows several lower courts siding with California officials, who argued the federal government was seeking to interfere in state elections.
California and the Trump administration have been in a legal standoff over the past few weeks following the justice departmentโs claim that 20,000 non-citizens were on the stateโs voter rolls. The DoJ delivered a USB drive to Los Angeles and Sacramento election officials in mid-October with the names, giving only 48 hours for officials to review the list and threatening to sue if the ballots were not sequestered until those listed could verify their citizenship. Election officials refused, leading to a series of courtroom battles.
The justice departmentโs claims faced immediate pushback from state officials and voting rights groups, who questioned how the agency compiled the list and accused the Trump administration of a ploy to cast doubt over midterm elections. The justice department refused to provide details on its methodology and analysis from election officials found numerous suggestions the list contained inaccuracies.
โThe Department of Justice has not provided the underlying evidence, source, or methodology supporting its assertions that individuals identified in its records are ineligible to vote,โ Dean Logan, Los Angeles county clerk and recorder, said in a statement after receiving the list.
New York Doctor Alleges Trump Sexually Abused Her at Age 8: 'I Was One of the Child Victims'
In the approximately five-minute recording shared on social media on 2 November, Portnoff identified herself publicly and explained why she wanted people to hear her account.
She also described an alleged attempt to approach her again in September 2025, despite her claims that the earlier experiences had already caused lasting harm.
Portnoff said the alleged sexual exploitation began when she was approximately eight years old and became worse around the time she turned 10.
According to her account, the alleged targeting continued between the ages of 10 and 12 before eventually stopping. She further claimed that she was targeted again when she was 16 and 17.
Iโm gonna be real for a minute. Iโve spent my adult life helping survivors clean up the messes their rapists made of their childhoods. There are reasons Iโm without mercy for some people.
Sometime on November 4th, abandoned space telescope Swift will reenter the earth's atmosphere and mostly burn up in a streak of fire. Exactly where and when aren't known until near the end. There's a website to share information and coordinate observations:
Still grumbling about Daylight Savings at work today, but otherwise it was VERY quiet. Spent most of my free time shooting the shit with co-workers and drawing up movie watch lists for them (I need to get rid of my midterm stress SOMEHOW). Laughed and laughed when I read down below about the Curious Case of the Exploding Su-57.
Wondering if even he is getting a little nervous about next year. Dems in control of both houses mean investigations, impeachments, and laws about ethics rules.
Anthropic released an amended S-1 disclosure, including Q3 results, ahead of its IPO. Most of the press is headlining their Q3 revenue ($17 billion), which was up 47% from Q2. That is actually a slowdown from the prior quarter, but still a massive amount of growth. However, they now have $895B in commitments to buy compute services, with $70B or so of that coming due in the next year. This, and $63B of debt, are not on their balance sheet, they have fobbed it off onto a so-called SPV company, but still, those obligations are effectively theirs. Anthropic admits their future growth is uncertain, but those spend commitments are certain. They still have over $100B in cash on hand, but that goes fast when you are paying those compute bills. So obviously they need to keep generating cash to meet that spend. That means steep growth from here, onwards and upwards, otherwise they crash and burn (https://dealroom.co/news/168953-anthropics-amended-s-1-17b-in-q3-revenue-a-slide-back-to-an-operating-lo/).
OT.
Is there election tomorrow? I would have thought that would see it on he news or I would have some sort of campaign ad here in western PA.
I moved recently and dreaded the online nightmare of the "convenience" to re-register my vote/address.
It was well run and efficient. I had questions. The actual phone was picked-up within two rings.
Thank you Colorado, we still matter.

SAVE A KITTEN VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS!
(I have been planning to for a long time anyways but how great a campaign slogan is that?)
When Harry met Kitten.
New wonk series!
Hmm. This seems like a STELLAR idea. Perhaps I will also adopt a kitten, as - name notwithstanding - I do not currently have one.
Way OT, Harrison Butkerโs field goal miss (wide right, haha) made being a Denver football fan, kind of awesome for a moment.
Harrison Butker being such a prick, his miss was awesome for non-Denver fans, too.

If all The Eagles ever did was to help inspire a backlash against their own ilk in the form of punk rock, I'd be okay with them.
I think he wrote songs with Linda Ronstadt too right?
I sense a subversive element at ABC news may have gained a degree of editorial control:
"Midterm elections live updates: SCOTUS denies Trump bid to segregate California votes"
Story mentions ballots, not votes or voters.

Technically correct use of the word. In case the bosses get upset about it.
