My ever so enlightened father believes it would be a good idea to have a depression again so people can see what starving is like and be willing to do anything for a scrap of bread, did I mention he is a tea partier who lives in Virginia? That is the mind set out there.

I say we end the Medicare programs and see how long it takes them to beg for universal health care.

Exactly, baby boomers know exactly what is going on and they are going to take as much of the free government services before they go - even if that means screwing over their own children, my Aunt who is on Medicare goes to the doctor 2-3 times a week and if he will not see her, she goes to the emergency room, my uncle said proudly over thanksgiving that she cost over a half million a year, the thing is, there is nothing really wrong with her. She just likes the attention.

Authoritarianism is a bunch of bigots led by the nose, they can be led anywhere.

And before health care reform, our out of pocket medical costs were sinking like a rock and coverage was expanding........?

PsycWench's avatar

You can take that argument, remove every reference to health care and replace it with pro-environmental policies and it will work just as well.

St. Sarah doesn't like it and that's all we need to know.

So are we against Obummer Care based on principle, or are we against it based on 10th amendment technicalities? Because I really wanted it to be about principle, being that I'm such a fine, upstanding, principled citizen. Principle.

Consider Medicare, Social Security, and Workers Compensation insurance.

Sure, that's only if you work, so it's becoming moot very soon.

Yeah, it's ironic that Big Insurance and Big Medicine and Big Pharma are the ones who want universal, semi-mandated coverage. Usually you'd expect Repubicans to line up with those cats and Demoncrats (plus you) to fight 'em.

AND: It's Health Insurance Reform. Health care ain't changing, just how we pay. Even Bachmann wouldn't give a speech opposing HIR.

Exactly. The universal mandate is a proxy for taxation, which is how most of the rest of the world does it.

Either way, it's the Red Menace. From each according to his ability to pay taxes/premiums; to each according to his need for treatment.

Workers Comp is commercial, I believe, but it's not federally mandated. So never mind.

No problem with having a state mandate that you purchase automobile insurance, because states can require that we go out and buy things? Oh and spare me that old canard about "well Roscoe the state isn't requiring that you actually own and drive a car" because you know what I'll say to that? I don't plan to cause an accident.

Another air tight point of logic, courtesy of your old pal Roscoe. You're welcome.
