Yet another tune from Trump’s Studio 54 era was “If you like Subpoena Colossus…”

Fatberg is an allegedly competent adult, so if I ran the Secret Service, I would let him fly in the unapproved plane, but if something happened, his estate would owe the government a refund for all money spent on the plane.

I hafta admit it's hard to watch "The Simpsons" carefully enough to notice some background gags.

That's what I love about 30 Rock. When have watched it so many times that the jokes you have heard before are no longer funny, you discover a whole additional set of jokes that you missed before because you were laughing at the first set

Ta, Gary. No notes. Poor little subpoena.

Yes, this personification immediately reminded me of Bill on The Hill!

Or, an Amendment to Be!

I loved the old Saturday morning School House Rock.

Not gonna lie, read that as "Panty Moths".

Intriguing.

Frightening to encounter, trust me on this!

"Donald Trump [sic] had insisted on flying his new Qatari bribe jet to the NATO summit in Turkey even though the plane had not been retrofitted with all the security measures that the jets that usually serve as Air Force One have. Once that leaked, the Secret Service made Trump [sic] leave Turkey on an old jet for security purposes."

The patriot signaling from the Fulvous Fuckwad is ludicrous to the extreme given he doesn't have a patriotic bone in his body. The USSS failed Pres ShitForBrains by not objecting to the paint job on Qatari Force One. The dipshit thinks painting the underside "American Flag Blue" with a red stripe shows his patriotic fervor. Granted that the Robin's Egg Blue was chosen by Jacqueline Kennedy but the color also served to be a sort of camouflage until the aircraft was no longer visible from the ground, even though that wasn't the initial concern:

> "Gone is the trademark light blue hull that helped Air Force One blend into the sky." https://www.facebook.com/16NewsNow/posts/gone-is-the-trademark-light-blue-hull-that-helped-air-force-one-blend-into-the-s/1350284020571552/

Oh, and the interior will be filled with high-end features a worthy of carrying POTUS:

> "It has the luxury features that the president believes a commander-in-chief’s entourage should have — plush carpets, lie-flat seats, wood paneling and ***a presidential seal on the seat belts***" [emphasis added] ibid

Cuz nothing spells luxury like the presidential seal engraved into seat belt locks.

Yeah they spent time and money to update the opulence and nothing on security. Frankly I wish that they had just left it open to vulnerabilities but I can be a spiteful soul sometimes.

If the members of the Fourth Estate had testicular/ovarian integrity they would tell the Felon in the Oval Office that the First Amendment still has primacy in this country, no matter what he thinks. The best thing everyone could do at that dinner is to keep reaming him for the filth that he is.

Herr Snackmeier's avatar

There was a time when the fourth estate had power. It drove attention, and with that attention it told the American people what to know and quite often how to think.

That period for newspapers ended in about 1970. For TV networks, sometime in the last 25 years. Today, there's no single institution that can gather enough attention to present its story as the story.

So, those that remain in the information business, do what all powerless people do when they accept that they are powerless. They compromise. They do what they think it takes to get to another dawn.

What persists in this country is a 60 or 70-year-old idea of what the news media is. People continue to talk as if Henry Luce still walked the earth. Or William Randolph Hearst, or Walter Cronkite.

They don't. And have not for a very long time.

First step in fighting back on this is to reset our expectations to the present reality.

Herr Snackmeier's avatar

In our constitutional order, our rights and liberties are protected only by the concept that the law both enables and limits the powers of the present cadre of government officials.

That's all Liberty in the United States is: the Constitution, a law, a judge telling a government official a simple no.

Well that may make many wax poetic about the rule of law and all that shit, I think in light of what's going on today, that is attacks on human Liberty from swarms of public officials, that's very cold comfort.

So little subpoena, you got thrown into the trash today only because a life-termed judge said no. A day may come very soon when that act will be ignored, because the government official knows that the judge has no police force, no army.

kckitty's avatar

Is the Justice Department filled with fake lawyers?

eo's avatar

I'm imagining a conversation like this:

Trump: Hey DOJ, subpoena the phone records of those bastards at the NYT.

DOJ lawyers: That subpoena would be immediately quashed.

Trump: Do it anyway.

DOJ lawyers: (gulp) Okay, boss!

With Fatberg, it's about the threats which is why he is so badly losing against the BBC since they didn't cave and hit him back where he lives... keeping his dealings secret

Sherry's avatar

No just the ones left willing to sell their soul to the devil. The good ones (and smart) were either fired or left to protect their careers.

Miss Grundy's avatar

Happily, really bad lawyers who are not very good at conducting research.

Herr Snackmeier's avatar

It is quite a human reaction to plead stupidity when the truth is malevolence.
