Abbott- he caught so much Flak over the texas mass shooting response that he knew he could kickstart his appealing to the hearts & minds of Texans. To me, Border patrol should be given jurisdiction. If the Mars Aliens 👽 try to breach the Rio Grande by cleverly donning scuba gear, those rotating fire engine red bouys will impede a US Texas National Gaurd armed response. The Fire Engine Red color of the rotating buoys which don't have razor wire (yet), in my opinion attract swimmers navigating for Asylum. Especially women and toddlers. So in this instance, we see a pre-emptive strike, gross negligence as deliberate manslaughter, as opposed to holding civilians and children in cages, robbing people of their dignity in the U.S Detention centers. I think Abbott & friends were worried about the cost and awkward PR conflicts associated with Detention Centers. That have been debated at length in the news.If the Empire should consider that Economic sanctions invariably hurt the most vulnerable ( like the strict and extensive sanctions in Venezuela, which seemed to me to trigger Mass Migration of starving desperate Venezuelan millions. To summarize, the various hydra heads of the U.S branches of state could revaluate how the US Empires Policies drive crime. Say for example, if allowing deregulation across industries HELPS or HINDERS crime. IDK, on the weirder side/spin, postulate of elites dictating world policy, our benevolent father Schwab via the WEF wants to centralize and Globalize ultimately to a dystopian utopian wonder city wherein TECH investment, a real promotion of AI which Biden has publically touted to merrily support Neutron Jacks model of robuzt economic growth for shareholders ! )

I have often wondered where the "boys" were before they came back to town. I always had the impression it was some place like Sing Sing.

As for Texas, I'm in favor of arrest the bastard now and apoloogize (if needed) later.

I would imagine Mountjoy Prison in Dublin, since the band were Irish.

Maybe someone here can answer this question. Why can't Biden simply declare the barriers and the razor wire on the river bank an obstruction to navigation and access to the navigable waterway, then order the Corps of Engineers to immediately remove them as a commerce and public safety emergency? Trump declared an emergency after he overrode a week old congressional appropriation for his wall and stole money from other budget lines, including housing and schools on military bases because he loves our troops. Moving money between totally separate budget accounts normally requires consent of congressional leaders since they appropriate funds, not Trump, which Trump did not have. Trump declared a national emergency to prevent a thousand or so immigrants expected at the border within about two weeks with the solution being a wall that would take years to build.

The Supreme Court had no problem with that so it would seem like an open pathway to immediately remove the barriers while proceeding with a court case saying Abbott could not put them back. The feds often act on obstructions hampering use of navigable waterways and threaten lives without going to court. So this seems like the best way to poke Abbott in the eye and exert unquestionable federal authority on border issues. But maybe there is another explanation other than the timid "we have never done that before" or "Republicans will whine about executive overreach." Republicans whine all the time, so just do what is right and expeditious.

''“This floating barrier poses a risk to navigation, as well as public safety, in the Rio Grande River''

So the DOJ doesn't know that ''Rio'' means river?

"Torpenhow Hill is a hill in Cumbria, England. It's name consists of the Old English ‘Tor’, the Welsh ‘Pen’, and the Danish ‘How’ - all of which translate to modern English as ‘Hill’. Therefore, Torpenhow Hill would translate as hill-hill-hill hill and is thus twice as interesting as the Japanese Mount Fujiyama, which translates into English as Mount Mount. "

Yep, no surpise to me about some of these oddities of language.

While this is not the same, for a year I lived near Webster, MA and the lake I lived right nearby is...

Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg,

a native name which means..

You fish on your side, I fish on my side, and nobody fishes in the middle

(the lake is segmented in three parts).

I can still pronounce it perfectly but I haven't gotten the spelling right by memory for a long time

Also the building I lived in was partly in Massachusetts, partly in Connecticut. I lived in the MA part, but a payphone at the other end had a CT phine number.

Malaria.

The sensible part of my brain tells me you meant "preventing malaria". But the part that reads about idiot MAGAts all day tells me you meant "Oprah level gift giving - free malaria for everybody!" (haha I kid, obviously, Repubs don't give away anything for free.)

Expand full comment

Yes, spend money on malaria. I'm just not sure whether or not the Republicans would make the situation any better given their fear of science and competent medical treatment. I think that their solution would be gin and tonics for everyone.

Expand full comment

I mean, tonic, at least the original recipe, does indeed treat and/or prevent malaria. It's completely undrinkable in its medicinal form, which is where the gin comes in.
