I keep wondering what kind of threat a 6 year can be? Ax murderer - maybe a hatchet murderer. Axes are heavy. Or maybe this guy in one of those good "Christians" who keeps multiple guns about just in case.... and he was afraid she would shoot them all in their sleep. Six year olds can aim quite well if they have one of those cute little pink ladyguns.

Post-adoption subsidies are very common in foster care adoptions: http://citylimits.org/2013/...

The adoption tax credit and adoption subsidies were created to encourage people to adopt difficult to place children. It's a bunch of laws with good intentions that have ended up with a lot of very bad results.

Certain agencies might have strict processes for adoption but as to the actual state laws, all that most states require is a homestudy by a licensed agency and a criminal background check. Adopting internationally is different again because the state department has their own rules but again, lots of people find ways to adopt who should have never been approved for a myriad of reasons.

Many children adopted from foster care are eligible for Medicare until the age of 21. If the family who adopts them also has personal insurance, medicare is considered secondary meaning whatever the personal insurance doesn't cover, Medicare will.

poster is referring to the menendez brothers, erik and lyle, who killed their parents.

Joseph Lyle Menendez (born January 10, 1968) and Erik Galen Menendez (born November 27, 1970) are brothers who are known for their conviction in 1994, as a result of a much-publicized trial, for the shotgun murders of their wealthy parents, entertainment executive Jose Menendez and his wife Mary "Kitty" Menendez of Beverly Hills, California, in 1989. They were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Oh, wow, I had no idea. I thought it was contingent on the parent's income.

Our daughter would have qualified for hundreds of dollars a month on top of Medicaid, foodstamps, and any other assistance needed. Meanwhile we were chastized for possibly needing assistance to support her.

I don't understand why the government would let somebody skip the home study and adopt without the trial period but still give them an adoption subsidy. Why would you give somebody a subsidy without any oversight into what they were doing with it?

They didn't skip anything. Homestudies are not as comprehensive as people think they are. I've had 2 for our daughter. Everything is self reported. They had the girls for a 6 month trial period before the adoption was finalized.
