Any friend or FDR and Eleanor is definitely a friend of mine!

And Barry and Michelle too...

Thanks for the Cardi B videos. I kind of love her now. That ASMR video is 13 minutes long? You do you ASMR friends.

How does a mental defective like Tomi Lahren get to be a "political commentator"?

Ummm...

They’re all from a website of failed wannabe actors 💯

Cardi B. has impressed me before with her intelligent grasp on politics. I was unaware that she was also a huge history buff. You can dismiss her for other things if you like but you cannot say that she’s not educated.

And it’s also sad that some people seem to think that these women of Rap aren’t whip smart. Megan Thee Stallion, Queen Latifa, Missy Elliot, et al are absolutely no dummies but the general public have an image in their heads that doesn’t fit the reality.

🤔😳 Here's an interesting tidbit, about another history (revisionist) nerd, in the last weekend before we have a President-elect Harris: Donald Trump's favorite neo-Nazi dinner date, Nick Fuentes, had a mental breakdown and screamed, "Liberals are right! This is a cult and we all need to get out of it!" Apparently, the sight of people wearing garbage bags and saying "we are garbage" to own the libs is a bridge too far for this crazy Holocaust-denier!! 🤪

How meaningless was the question, "What would you do different?" It really is a question best left unanswered, and a good leader will not allow it to bog down their campaign.

I wonder how "advanced placement" courses today compare to those in the 1960s. I took every one offered until, in 1966, my high school had to cancel all of them because of budget cuts.

My 1966 graduating class had 700 of us and every one was at least functionally literate.

Expand full comment

Well, we had no advanced placement courses but the majority of the 19 graduates in my class went on to law school. So somewhat more than functionally literate. Not me; I worked several quite menial jobs until I learned to code.

Same here: HS '66 w/ 780. Can you still diagram a sentence? I can't.

Actually, I never could...

Expand full comment

Nope, can't diagram a sentence or identify every word's "part of speech." Who cares? That stuff is for teaching, which I never did. But I did sell more than one million words to the print market and now it's all on line, for free. ">)

I took advanced chem, kind of slacked through it, but when I took chem studies in college it was easy because I already saw equilibrium equations before.

Expand full comment

I loved "balancing equations!" I presume you took those courses about the same time period as I. Something I haven't thought about in ages is why my AP courses didn't actually grant me "advanced placement" at college. I still had to take the intro courses. That began my life-long hatred of my choice of college.

A lot of that shit happened because you chose the wrong parents.

You're right. The "right parents" would have had more money and could have paid to send me to Swarthmore or Antioch.

People who get all in a sniff about rap having some raunchy lyrics never paid attention to what their favorite guy Ted Nugent was actually singing I guess. And people who underestimate the intelligence of rappers don't know the kind of deep cut references they make or the linguistic skill it takes to rhyme at high speed like that, especially the freestylers. Can't imagine why they would make such assumptions.

Expand full comment

Nah, the difference is that Ted's lyrics were degrading to women as these assholes think is proper, whereas WAP and other lyrics going way back to the early blues era were actually empowering to women

Cardi B. Bad Bunny. Taylor Swift. Bruce Springsteen. Julia Roberts. Oprah. J Lo. George Clooney. Harrison Ford. Etc. etc.

Harris has a staggering A list of supporters, influencers, with juice. Trump has D list pop culture rejects like Hulk Hogan, Lee Greenwood and Kid Rock.

All the anger, hatred and division has sickened people for years. Voters have been waiting for the chance to finally fire Trump and send him back to FL to await prison. I was worried about Joe and voters’ concerns about him. But Harris was the younger, different candidate unsure voters needed. Most would have voted for anyone but Trump, he’s so vile. But Harris is a very good candidate and will build a strong administration.

Harris wins in a near landslide with Trump winning only the reliably red states and possibly a single swing state, narrowly. Harris will pass 300 electoral votes and the results should be called by Weds.

Harrison Ford? MY Harrison Ford? My crush since the second Star Wars movie? (I was too young for the first) Why has no one mentioned this before?

She's run a staggeringly great campaign. I love your scenario. I'm certain you've seen Selzer's Iowa poll. If she takes Iowa...fuck, even Fox will be calling it before the polls close in Nevada. My best case is 372-166 (Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, NC, Arizona, the whole blue wall). I personally believe it will be an unanticipated blowout.

Expand full comment

I can't see Florida, but I would not rule out Texas. But I am willing to be wrong.

Expand full comment

I did see the Iowa poll. It’s a smart article and analysis, granting that the margin for error is nearly the same as Harris’ lead. But it’s also a pretty small sample, 800 or so people? I think the polls, media and right wing money are skewing the predictions. Trump’s latest TV spots are almost silly they are so desperate. All of it is bullshit. The perception that the economy is bad, and that immigrants are pouring over the Mexican border are really the only issues they are concerned with. Neither are accurate, as our economy is quite strong and the border is no more “open” than it was in years past. But telling his base Kamala has us on “the brink of WWIII” is all he can do.

Back in reality, Harris has given people reason to feel good about voting. Many voters didn’t want a rematch of Biden/Trump. Now, they have a new choice and a new voice. Trump has only gotten darker, nastier, more incoherent and has incomprehensible legal baggage. Harris should win convincingly and carry most swing states. Trump has been shedding all but the most extreme voters for years. In a sane world, he’d be a 5% candidate. Even in our insane world, Harris wins by 10 million votes.

Expand full comment

Regarding the economy, the source of people's distress is the impact of worsening income and wealth inequality, which they rightly blame on government. They just don't grasp that Trump would make it worse, and Kamala has not addressed economic justice issues squarely.

I'm wary of thinking too positive and jinxing it..

but I'm hoping for >350, a couple seat majority in the senate.. and a few seat majority in the house.

Then we need to not waste the next two years.

Expand full comment

If we retain the Senate and recover the House, no Manchin or Sinema to block what needs to happen. For that matter, a president willing to end the filibuster, expand the Supreme Court, enshrine abortion rights, and aid the push to abolish the electoral college. Hell of a wish list. We'd have a much better shot with Harris and a Senate remix.

Expand full comment

The Republican Party would implode as they frantically infight for control of the post-Trump GOP and to create a new identity. The time is ideal to redefine democracy by undoing the damage done by Trump. Restore abortion rights. Expand the SCOTUS and require the court be ideologically balanced. Remove the electoral college. Bolster election laws to criminalize the act of monetizing The Big Lie, and reform campaign finance laws. Let’s make our democracy as strong as America likes to pretend it already is.
