I was so blown away to think that the city and church fathers approved such a whimsical design.And then you do the tour up inside the dome and see and learn all about the genius of Bruneleschi’s solutions that allows them to build a dome like that for the first time since they lost the technology the Romans had mastered. So fascinating.
I know exactly what you mean. I felt similar the first time I went to Paris. We stayed in the suburbs, with a college roommate and took the train in, and stepped off, and there in front of me, was the Louvre Palais. All the landmarks that I had read about, and I was there! It seemed surreal.
Your point is well taken, but since Warren is from Massachusetts, I'm assuming, though not a done deal, that a Dem would be elected/appointed in her place if she left for the Cabinet
