A moment of respectful silence for Country Joe McDonald. He was exactly my age (always gives me a wake-up). “ 🎶… Be the first one on your block to have your boy come home in a box!”
I wore my “Veterans Against Trump” shirt today, HOPING to be accosted about it. I’ve got so many responses prepped to all the stupid statements I imagine some cultist throwing at me! Unfortunately I live in a deep blue town, and mostly I got “Nice shirt” and “Thanks for your service.” Maybe the occasional side-eye, but that doesn’t a satisfying argument make 😢
I can't accommodate an argument, but it occurred to me reading this that some of these Vietnam veteran trump voters still harbor a raging hatred for Jane Fonda. Which makes no logical sense!
I got drafted in 1971. My lottery number was 47. My local draft board in Oklahoma did me the courtesy of giving me a couple of weeks to get my affairs in order before reporting to the induction center.
In 1971 my husband was back home but still legally belonged to the army. To this day, I have to be pretty careful waking him up from a deep sleep. Some part of him will always be in Vietnam.
"But that John Kerry 'Swift Boat Veterans for Truth' ad campaign..."
Apologies if this nit-picky correction appears elsewhere in the comments, but this phrasing makes it sound as if Kerry initiated the ad campaign. In fact, the Rethugs did, in opposition to his 2004 candidacy. Just to clarify.
I had to register for the draft in the early '70s, but by the time I was doing so, they weren't calling anyone up anymore. Had they been doing so, I was seriously looking at fleeing to Canada. It would have been no loss to the Army: I'm sure I would have made a pretty terrible soldier.
My ex had polio as a child. spent3yearsin an iron lung. was blessed to have survived.
He was left with flat feet, curvature of the spine and was legally blind without glasses but every year we watched for his number being picked. We had just been married when he got a very low number, but most friends figured with al the things wrong with him, he could not pass the physical.
Wrong!
it was late in the war, they were running low on soldiers/bodies. He got drafted into the marines. worse yet, they redefined the definition of being legally blind. he was considered good to go along (just don't drop your glasses in the mud because there would be no one to take you by the hand and lead you. so he got on the bus with the guy with asthma being sent to the jungle and the gut with a heart murmur (no big deal just don't get excited.)and off to Paris Island. Luckily my ex got another physical when he arrived at Paris Island and they found a heart problem which was finally enough to dismiss him.
that was the same time Trump had his bones spurs keep him out and George W Bush jumped the line of 4 years to enlist in the Texas National guard. Both these stories made it to my papers and became my life long "job" of following in the news. And we have all had the bad luck of both these unqualified "lucky" men as President.
fast forward and time has changed my ex. Not that we keep in touch much. One of his complaints is that I have not changed much over time. I still like the same things and added new foods and things but not "grown more adult" and appreciate classic religious values (example of these values. I was always faithful but did not attend church like his new wife who was sleeping with him while we were married. She was a good christian and I was a terrible person because I did not attend church each week! It goes further but that sticks in my craw. And come elections, who does he vote for but DJ Trump. I, of course, always remember.
She’s of military age, let her go first.

Can't wait to see Barron get HIS draft physical. Oh, wait...

How complicated could a land war in Asia be, really?
just ask anyone whose ever played Risk, i played a lot & am still proud of holding asia for 3 turns, once …
And that's without dealing with actual logistics.
Seems like a simple draft of "Everyone involved in ICE" would provide some boots in the ground.
BUT BUT BUT THE IRANIANS WILL SHOOT BACK!!!!
So a win-win then.
Just tell them all they've been transferred.

Just avoid Senator Sheehy (aka Armbreaker.)

''the war is pretty much complete''
he'll find out hard facts in the most unfortunate of ways
I hope they do it. There is no faster way for all of these people to lose their jobs than reinstituting the draft.

They managed to make Kerry being a hero into a bad thing. Amazing, but they pulled it off.
Yep, they did. No bottom then, no bottom now.
Yes, that was awkward phrasing.
"flapping her hot dog lips"!
Whoa! They are rather plumped up!
Looking at her pic there with Bar Tiramisu, she looks like a hyper aggressive sex bot!
that quote made me lol. So true. Get another injection, liar.

You must not have wanted to KILL, KILL, KILL!
DRAFT?

Your life is a novel that summarizes the past 60 years of American culture~~
Trump was playing "It Ain't Me" at his rallies for a while, which proves that not only is irony dead, it's starting to smell pretty bad.
Up there with "YMCA" and his antigay rhetoric
Wonder if he's planning to tap his new ICE army to fight overseas. Probably not, he wants to keep them close by to protect his own sorry ass.
