In my state, you register your party affiliation by requesting a Democratic or Republican primary ballot. Independents are all those who aren't registered R's or D's.

This would have come in handy in 2016. We could have organized them for the election. HCR's for HRC.

Dear beleaguered masses: Know that when you are at your lowest, and you've lost all faith in humanity and the decency of the universe, some American used-car salesman of spirituality will always be ready to swoop in and try to make a quick sale for Jeebus.

First, she's not a Judas. She hasn't betrayed anyone. Second, if she spends her silver coins for something good, then that's a good thing even if it doesn't cure problems overnight. She is not a clone of Rupert Murdoch and should not be judged on what he says or does.

I have friends who are essentially Independents but are still registered Republicans. (They think of themselves as Rockefeller Republicans) They remain Republicans so they can file protest votes for the least-insane candidates on the primary ballot. Kind of like sending up a flare. They, of course, then vote for the Democrats in the general election even though they still have to work out various minuses in the candidates because there are always aspects of the Democratic Party Platform they have problems with.

I was registered as an independent until the '08 election, but I never once voted for a Republican. It was my way of saying that the Dems weren't exactly thrilling me, but the GOP could go sit on a butt-plug made out of cactuses, broken glass, and habañero peppers.

Not at all. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 5 being center and 1 being far left, I’m probably 2 to 2.5, and I don’t want to be confused with a 1.

Very sweet of NYT to tell us that there's a nice person in one of the worst person in the world's family. All her philanthropic deeds are good and all but if she really wanted to help America, I would suggest that at the next family get-together that she...(checks commenting rules) never mind.

The primaries full of bugnutz crazies are the symptom, the disease is gerrymandering districts that are so safe people like EmptyGee and Princess BoBo win the general election as a matter of course after winning the primary by demonstrating that they are certifiably crazy.

The minute I see "sensible centrist" I immediately know they are talking about someone who thinks the Dems should bend over and willingly take another one from behind from the Repturds in the name of "bipartisan." They never call out the Repukes for being hyper partisan maroons and political thugs.
