I’ve known a few people involved in non-profits and politics that take extras and stock up personally, on stuff purchased with donor and tax payer dollars. They often keep donations but then give them to their friends, or people they want to be friendly with. One politician lost his ministry position over this behavior, while others just get bad reputations. What I’ve seen is that people just don’t see this part of them, and are in awe of fake charisma and the so called gifts they are given from a supposed VIP. It’s just gross behavior, when you know the gift is a grift.
Once again, it bears mentioning - no one will EVER convince a Republican to vote for a Democrat.
I don't care if the Republican is Adolf Hitler and the Democrat is Jesus resurrected. No Republican will EVER vote for a Democrat. They've simply been brainwashed over the last 30 years, with the continuous message that "Democrats hate America and want to destroy it!" Every Republican in America really and truly believes that with all their heart.
So: the best you can do is get the Republican to skip the election. The way to do that is to re[eat this over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and...you get the message:
A vote for an adulterer is an vote for adultery, and God hates adultery. It's the only sin mentioned in two Commandments. So if you vote for an adulterer, you're voting for the worst of all sins and how are you going to justify that to God?
Hammer that point home every single chance you get. Make memes about it; post those memes in every corner of the internet. Make sure no Republican hears the message that "voting for an adulterer is telling God you support adultery" at least 10,000 times.
Resist the temptation to put other stuff in there. Forget about the graft, the wars, the gerrymandering. I can assure you there is absolutely NOTHING you could EVER say about that stuff that will make a Republican think twice about voting.
But adultery? Having to explain that to God? Yeah, they'll pay attention to that, but they're going to have to hear it a whole bunch of times before they realize that voting for adultery is something they don't want to have to explain in the afterlife.
He's the type of scumbag to just take shit for the thrill of making other people unhappy. He also probably loves making other people have to confront him because he has zero shame. Sounds like a bog-standard sociopath.
They're cut from the same terrible cloth, certainly. I don't think Paxton will have the same pull on MAGA faithful though. This is also in a state that regularly elects Ted Cruz so I am pessimistic.
Even IF someone gave me a cake for my birthday, my first instinct is always to find a bunch of other people to share it with, because cake is always more delicious and automatically has less calories when you share it with other people!
For health reasons, my better half adopted a vegan diet a couple of weeks ago. As a dedicated omnivore for lo these 60-plus years, I thought about it for a day or two before deciding to join her. I'd been thinking about it for a time anyway.
We're both good cooks and prepare all our meals at home, so this is an exciting new journey.
I don't begrudge anyone who eats meat or dairy and would be a hypocrite if I did. But this is about food, diet, choice, health and preference, not politics. Lots of people are vegans, vegetarians, kosher, halal, etc. So what?
Explain how adhering to any of those diets, or none at all, has anything to do with the duties of an elected official. I've got all day.
It’s code for “he’s a gay libturd commie who’s going to make you drink oat milk and take your burgers and steaks away.” Their usual schoolyard bullshit.
Put me down as someone who doesn't like coconut, Evan, so unless the cake underneath was chocolate it would be a no go. As to being so fucking petty and nasty as to steal cakes? I can see Paxton doing that because he is an asshole, a douche canoe, a son of a bitch and a motherfucker. Oh yeah, and a republican so, of course he's corrupt.
Still, one doofus angrily replied, “Y’all can’t make Talarico a viable candidate. I don’t care. Paxton will protect us from Democrat insanity.”
That comment right there... WTF is wrong with these Paxton supporters? What is the lowest bar? Apparently there is none. Just rabid hatred for Democrats. 🤯
By design because the GOP candidates have ZERO VISION. They just have to attack Democrats for fake bullshit and their base is so brain rotted from years of RWNJ programming that they eat the slop as they get poorer and sicker
I hope he does have enormous influence and power in right-wing circles. Because the one thing we can count on is him never using his power for "good", other than his own good.
With regard to that crack about sacrifices to Moloch, regularly made by bible-thumping right wingers, they might consider there is definite evidence in the Bible that the ancient Hebrews sacrificed their children to Yahweh, at least in emergency conditions like plague, famine and war. The firstborn at that.
There's the story of Abraham and Isaac. It's sugar-coated as a test of Abraham's obedience, with Yahweh himself intervening to say, "No, don't do it, man!" at the last second. But that's definitely sugar-coated revision, done in later centuries when the Israelites had become more civilised - if you don't count their policy of wiping out entire tribes for not worshipping the same god they did.
But there's still Judges Chapter 11, the one they never drew our attention to in Sunday School. The time of the Judges was centuries after Abraham, when the chosen people had settled in Caanan, and this joker Jephthah, a former bandit now reconciled with his family and turned respectable (because they needed him and his hard boys) made a deal with God to win a crucial battle. "I'll give you the first thing I meet when I return home, as a sacrifice" he said. And the first living thing he met as he returned home was his young daughter.
The story probably isn't true, but that's a bit beside the point. The point is that the Bible doesn't even suggest that Jephthah did wrong to sacrifice his daughter, and such sacrifices, it's clear, had been performed at one time. Showing that chosen people or not, they were no better than those wicked surrounding tribes they destroyed with an (alleged) mandate from God. Showing also that the Bible is a cruel and evil book unfit to use as an ethical guide.

I'd say Talarico has a good chance of winning, except people are stupid on purpose.
He's the type of scumbag to just take shit for the thrill of making other people unhappy. He also probably loves making other people have to confront him because he has zero shame. Sounds like a bog-standard sociopath.
So, Trump then.

Because you are a normal human being. He is not.
Pretty sure it's just kleptomania. Anything not nailed down must be taken.
He probably had a few bites and just binned it.

I wish you luck in your journey. Make sure you get in complete proteins and take B12 supplements if necessary.
Already doing so, and thank you!

People are dumb.
Yes they are.

I like cake!

The lowest bar is "Do they have an R next to their name?". Everything else is fine.

Uh, did the sacrifices work? Asking for a fiend.
They loooove live for the eternal gaslighting 💯
Ta, Dok. Paxton is crookeder than Gov. Abbottoir, and that's saying something. Do better, Texas. The spirit of Ann Richards is watching ....
They fumbled Beto several times. I'm not sure Texas is salvageable in its current iteration.
I know it's not the fault of citizens but the disenfranchisement by their officials has been effective
